Eh. Thought it ran its course the first 3 or 4 times I saw stuff about it. Then he went on ESPN. Then he went to Cleveland. I'm just like Ok pal, we get it.

the idea of a 6'8 250# person with a 40 inch vert and can run a 4.6 running down the field is very appealingHe'd be a monster TE.

Should the Steelers try to pluck a Ben replacement from this class of free agents/draft considering it is probably the deepest FA and draft class in what the last 10 years? Ben is going to play for what 1 more year then the Landry Jones era starts?

I would like that very much.

Minus the Landry Jones era. There should never be a Landry Jones era.

i read a pretty compelling article on how Landry Jones would actually do okay. Then I unfollowed whoever wrote it

For some reason, a much larger than expected contingent of writers and fans have really been pushing the "Landry Jones would be fine" angle. I can only assume he is nice to them or something, because that's the only explanation for it.i read a pretty compelling article on how Landry Jones would actually do okay. Are any of the writers ever critical of the front office? The team really wants Jones validated as a solid #2 or bridge QB. Seems like the writers are happy to take that and run instead of doing something against the grain.

Landry would do fine if we wanted to pick in the top 10, possibly top 5 in every draft.

I enjoy the stance of "well he really knows the playbook, so he's a great #2." As if talent means nothing when compared to being in a system so long, you better know the damn playbook.

I might be giving them too much credit, but even the Browns are not stupid enough to make that trade.1. Trade Bell to the Browns and get the first pick in the draft

The Steelers can’t fit their draft class under the cap.
2018 Steelers Offseason Thread
They've restructured a good half a dozen deals this offseason; I saw somewhere they were approaching $30 million in adjusted contract dollars....... and they're still either right at the cap, or a skosh over. (Which would be a tough spot to be in, because I think today is the cap compliance deadline for the new year.)

Spotrac shows them with over 8 mil in space including projections on draftees. Is that site reputable?

According to Over The Cap, they are $2.8 million over. (Last in the League)

But I have no idea when that was last updated, or if OTC is reliable.

Martavis got the Jesse James treatment but to a greater extent:
All things considered the Steelers have less than $4MM in cap space now and sport a thoroughly terrible defense. Bell and his cap hit gotta go.@IanWhetstone
Steelers WR Martavis Bryant's salary now reflects in NFLPA records that he has earned the Proven Performance Escalator (available in contracts of all rookies drafted after round 2), bumping his pay from $705,000 to $1,907,000. This eats an addition $1.202 million in cap space.

Based on posts I have read in this thread, I have a take that will undoubtedly be panned by the 5AF Steelers intelligentsia:Martavis got the Jesse James treatment but to a greater extent:

Actually, the Steelers defense is good and not bad. They are being judged by either unfair (e.g., compared, perhaps even subconsciously, to past Steelers defenses rather than their peers in 2018) or obsolete standards.
imo

What? Our defense is not good. I’ll agree to not that bad, but certainly not good.
