I disagree about the reason we drafted a QB now being because of those statements. Everyone knows that he’s only got a certain amount of time left, and it’s in our best interest to find and groom a replacement now rather than later.

But yeah, Landry is ****.

Hmm. I don't really see what what so wrong about what he said. I think he'd like to play another 3-5 years (even if he may be only able to play another 2-3 physically) He doesn't understand using a 3rd round pick on a position of strength when the team had so many positions of weakness. Can't say I disagree with him there. I don't really see it as him being some huge dodint.

Now, when he says in the first post game where he decides to go all regular season Jacksonville that 'its a good thing that the steelers drafted my replacement this year', then we can say he's being a bit douchy.
Geno -- while you are a ups fan and therefore fundamentally of low character and compromised ethics, I enjoy your posts and they are good. You are the first Stillers fan I have heard suggest they dislike the Rudolph pick. Who would you have taken there given you feel they have weaknesses that outweighed Rudolph's value. I'll hang up and listen. Thank you and God bless.

Why, any Penn State Nittany Lion left on the board at that point, obviously... regardless of position. Instant upgrade. While appreciated, I don't require God's blessing as I have been anointed with the waters of grace, wisdom, humility *cough*, and superior drinking ability that flow through University Park, Pennsylvania.
Thank you for your call.........and service.
In all honesty, I don't dislike the pick/player at all. I just don't get all of the  over Ben's comments about it. I agree with shaf on the drama Ben stuff, but really view this as ’Twilight' Ben drama, not 'Sophie's Choice' Ben drama. To him, they wasted a value pick on his position when his window for winning is closing. I'm not sure who was available to take instead of Mason, and I'm sure Ben doesn't either.

Class move by the Rooneys

Per Adam Schefter
Steelers converted $8.26M of LB Ryan Shazier’s $8.718M base salary for 2018 into a signing bonus, meaning he will receive the money immediately, per @FieldYates. Nice gesture for a beloved player.

With regards to the Ben stuff I don’t see what the big deal is. I think it’s actually great he wants to play for 3 more years. Let Rudolph observe learn and develop and allow him to be successful when he does hopefully become an NFL starter.

The CBA forbids cutting 5th-year option rookie contract players because of injury: The Steelers were on the hook (and cap hit) for Shazier's full contractual salary regardless. So I do think this move is solely about putting the money in his pocket right now. They can't sign him to an extension unless he has a realistic chance of playing again, so I'm not sure how you can retroactively make a 'signing bonus' four years in.

All of which I would say is evidence that I have no real understanding of the NFL salary cap.

It does not free up any cap space. For example, if he had another year on his contract, then it would free up room, and the 8mm would be allocated 4mm to the 2018 cap and 4mm to the 2019 cap. Because he's in his last year, it just transforms into an immediate payout right now, as opposed to him receiving it over the course of the season in the form of 17 checks.

Roethlisberger was on with Cook and Filiponi and pooped all over Mason Rudolph
“How does a 2nd or 3rd string QB help us win now”

What was the context around that quote? It sounds douchey, but if he was asked 'what does Rudolph do for the 2018-19 Steelers Super Bowl hopes', then his answer is perfectly acceptable.

I mean I think everyone realizes the team needs defensive help, and they spent one high-round pick on that side of the ball. It's a fair question to ask considering that was the downfall of the team last year. That being said, coupled with original comments, it's douchey.

Given what we all know about Ben, I'm gonna take a leap of faith and say that was not the context of the quote. He's a moody little piss boy who gets off on stirring up drama. He must feel threatened because he never ***** about the Steelers drafting Jones or Dobbs a whole one round after they drafted Rudolph.

How does a new QB help now? Because BRoeth is one motivated T-Sizzle hit away from having a liquefied brain.

Ben Roethlisberger on the radio just now: “As far as I know, I’m still the starter.”
Ahhh. All the maturity and petulance of a **** toddler. This is going to devolve into a Favre-Rodgers situation because Ben is a **** diva.

So Ben, are you going to help teach Rudolph the ropes?
