Had some family over for sledding on the hill in our back yard. Glad I did because the snow is completely gone 24 hours later.

Yeah we got out and enjoyed it a couple weekends ago. It's so fun when it gets cold and the ground freezes up above the snow.

My daughter got one of those metal saucers last year and that thing is dented all to hell lol.

Anyone ever visit Acadia national park?

The five star trail in Greensburg is still going strong but it isn't a long trail.

Walked this trail today. Started in Armbrust to add a little extra to it and ended up exactly at 8 miles when we got back to Lynch Field.

Scenery-wise it isn't much this time of year. But wow, it's the nicest fastest sustained trail I have seen in PA. Looking forward to running portions of it when I build my endurance back up.

Loved it there. Not as crowded as other NPs and plenty of hiking. Having the ocean right up against it adds to the charm.

I've had this website bookmarked for a couple years now. I love exploring nature but I absolutely abhor crowds of people, busses, etc. Acadia actually gets 3.5m annual visits, which is far from the most but also pretty crowded.

Biggest thing Acadia has going against it is that it gets that many visits but it is in the bottom quarter of national parks by land area.

Any rankings of land or crowd size of NPs should take into consideration a large percentage of NPs are in Alaska and skews the numbers

I’ve been to maybe 10 NPs in my lifetime, and I’d say Acadia ranks near the least populated. Maybe it’s because we went mid September.

The park is at least a 6 hour drive from a major airport, which keeps the amount of visitors down.

Most crowded I’ve been to was Smokey Mountains. It was hard to call that area preserved and pristine with the amount of traffic/visitors.

In the near future the New River Gorge in WV will be a NP, and the first one in WV.

We found a place for 4 nights pretty much in the middle of the island in a town called Hall Quary overlooking sondes sound. Would that be a good location for exploring? 4 nights enough for there mid June?

4 nights is probably good enough. We did a whale tour in September one of our days there, but not sure if you’ll get that chance in June.

Location looks fine. We had lunch on that side of the sound one day and enjoyed lobster sandwiches. Otherwise we didn’t do much on that side

Is most of the hiking and sights over by bar harbor or is it pretty evenly spread around? We aren't really looking at spending much time in town.

Like shaftnuts said, Acadia is rather small so it’s not a big deal to go from your side of the sound over to bar harbor and back.

Granted we went in 2014 so my memory may be fuzzy, but the only really “crowded” attraction was Cadillac mountain sunrise. If you plan to do that, get up early enough or I think you could bring a tent and camp out if you have the people willing to do it.

Flying or driving? We drove and stopped at Walden Pond on the way. Not a huge place but a neat little trail and on the way.

Driving. Going to stay in Salem on the weekend up. Hoping to hit up Vermont/NH on weekend home for some beers
