Opening day of trout is almost upon us and I'm itching like a mofo to get out in the water! Depending on water levels me and the old man usually hit the Slippery Rock creek off the Portersville exit, but I have a feeling with this rain that the water levels will just be to dang high for it. Which usually means Deer Lakes because its close.

Anyone else going out for Opening Day and beyond?

My grandfather owned property in the Slate Lick-ish area right on Buffalo Creek. I went there on the first day of trout season.

I haven't fished since I was 14 but for the last 3 or 4 years I've thought I would really like to get back into it. I just have no one to go with and help me re-learn.

That is quite worthy of a title re-brand. Best pun I've seen all week. :thumb:

Some day I shall fish the open seas. Some day. Only saltwater work I've done is Blue Crabbing on the Chesapeake.

I usually just go out on a "party" boat from the Jersey Shore with some friends and a 30 of beer.

Good times.

Usually go to Mill Creek up by Idlewild. Then 4 mile run/loyal Hannah in the AM. Hit Deer Creek near Harmarville in the afternoon.

Not that I have a huge amount of experience, just sunset party charters and whatnot. Going back to when I was little, I really wanted to take my grandfather out for billfish, but that never came to pass.

I live 15 minutes from the Chesapeake and have yet to go crabbing. Was debating buying some pots this year, saw a deal on CL, 2 pots for $20

My son is starting to really get into it. He's 4 and he talks about it all the time. We fish from the shore of the Chesapeake and catch little things. It's fun though.

some of this gentleman's fishing friends are big on phoebes and especially huss lures, but this gentleman has had minimal luck with both. its a spoon issue.

Waxies are usually my go to for Steelhead...but I may pick some up for trout this year and have a leader ready to go in case I want to switch tactics.

I am still trying to decide if I want to go out on Saturday for trout or attend the Pitt spring game. If I go out on opening day, I go to Jones Mill Run, Laurel Hill Creek, and Shaffer Run (all near Hidden Valley). Trying to decide which of my 2 options will have less people (should be close).

Wake up boys and girls. Time to go catch dinner. Miss going to Sugar Creek back in the day. Only get out a couple times a year. My Ugly Stick and Mitchell 308 are ready today. I'm taking 8 lol. Or more.

Deer Lakes was awful this year. Only caught 4; Hardly anybody catching anything at all. I'm glad opening day is past though, and 75% of the people won't be out again until next year. :thumb: In the meantime... down to Pine Creek after work in the evenings!
