People who think they are good at SQL and those who are actually good at SQL are miles apart. The former can really fubar you databases very easily.

I'd agree with a course.

I know enough SQL to be dangerous. I also am (hopefully) aware of my limits and tag in a data warehouse developer when I start to feel over my head.

Due to my recent addiction to Cities Skylines I'd like to upgrade my RAM. I have an HP Envy x360 and would like to add at least another 32 GB. I'm sure I can do the actual installation myself (even if HP **** over it's customers with it's design on this model regarding access).

I've never worked with hardware before. Is all RAM compatible or do I need to find a specific kind?

All RAM is definitely not compatible. It seems like there might be multiple versions of that laptop. You would need to make sure you get exactly the type and speed it calls for.

What Shyster said. Download CPU-Z (https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html), and it will tell you exactly what kind of RAM you have in your system, speed and all. It should also tell you how many slots you have, and if there are open ones.

I tried to search for the solution for the following problem all over the Internet, but with no success:

I was able to pair my Airpods Pro with a PC (Windows 10) using Bluetooth adapter. The issue I have that anytime I have something on Autoplay (Youtube, Spotify,...) whenever the machine goes to the next song or next clip, the earphones stop receiving sound. I basically have to stop the song/clip, manually return it to the beginning, click the "play" button - and then the sound comes back. But only until the end of that song/clip, then it's the same problem again.

I tried to re-pair, disable the "Headset" on Airpods (and leave only "Headphones"). No success. Any suggestions?

That makes no sense to me at all. Definitely one of those ones you’ll have to Google to see if somebody else has come across it, sorry.

I know there was an IT thread, but I can't find it so...

I haven't been able to update Windows for over a year. Initially it was a memory issue but I cleared enough off the main HD for an install. It still doesn't work. It downloads, tries to install, then I get the "undoing changes made to your pc" message and I'm right back where I started. I wouldn't care except I can't update Adobe Lightroom and Bridge without having Windows up to date and it's becoming a big pita.

I've ran the trouble shooter which says it finds and fixes errors, but when I try to update after that, the cycle begins anew. Any guesses what to do? Can I do a fresh install without losing everything I have (programs, etc)? Can I install from a separate HD? I'm open to ideas.
This thread was buried on page *checks notes* one of this forum. ;)

You can “Reset Windows”, but it will reset basically everything, which you don’t want. If you go to Settings, Updates, and then Update History, does it give you a detailed message about why the update failed? Also, which update is failing?

Click on the Start menu and type in winver and hit enter. What build of Windows are you running? I can give you instructions on what I would do first, but I need that info first.

I did a search for "thread of IT" and the words were too common. Blame the mods.

I'm on 17134.885.

Here's what the update screen shows.

You’re running a very old build. So you have two options, IMO.

But first, I’d probably go ahead and repair your Windows Update repository. Follow the instructions on this page to do that: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clea ... windows-10

Once done, pick an option below.

Option 1:
Run Windows Update again and see if it now attempts to pull 1909, or better yet, 20H2. Download and install the patches and see if it goes through.

Option 2:
Download the latest Windows Update Assistant to bring your device up to build 20H2: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... ndows10ISO

The assistant basically downloads the latest W10 ISO and upgrades your OS. You will be asked if you want to upgrade and keep all personal data - make sure that you select that option, and don’t select a brand new build.

Why is my computer now 1 hour behind the current time and how do I fix it?

Whatever server both my work desktop and personal laptop sync to appears to be borked.

If it fails again, go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS in File Explorer. Make a copy the CBS.log file, and PM it to me and I'll look through it to see if I can figure out where it's failing. If you have any errors in Event Viewer, that may also help.

Work or home computer? To fix it, right-click on the clock in your system tray and choose Adjust date/time. If your time zone is set correctly, uncheck 'Set time automatically' and then re-check it. If that doesn't work, open command prompt or PowerShell and run the following command: w32tm /resync /nowait

My dad has a 6 year old Alienware 15 R2, and loves it. The problem is that it's on its second battery, which no longer charges. Rather than replacing another battery, I picked him out a brand new Acer laptop. Ryzen 5 4500U, 8GB RAM, super fast. Really nice laptop, and one I'd consider buying for myself. So I configure it for him, migrate his data, etc. Spent an entire day working on it.

He spent two days using it, and hates the keyboard. I just boxed it back up and will be dropping it off at UPS for the Amazon return. Because he "doesn't want to have to get used to a new keyboard". **** old people, man.

I've got an external HD that when I plug this stupid **** thing into any USB drive on any computer it powers on, makes "booting" sounds, and is recognized by the computer in the Device Manager.... yet I can't open the god damn thing at all. Doesn't show up in my list of drives, can't force it to open up folders upon installation. Device properties say it's working properly, computer says it has the best and most up to date driver for the HD, Disk Information is blank, everything in Details looks fine as it's identified as a normally operating disk drive. Only thing that sticks out is the Events section, which states
Device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_WD&Prod_My_Passport_0810&Rev_1049\575836314543334357455232&0 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match
to which a Google search provides a ton of unhelpful Microsoft forum support. What the **** do I need to do with this thing?

In Computer Management, under Storage\Disk Management, do you not see the disk at all? If it mounted successfully, you should see it listed there, even if it has no drive letter assigned to it (you can do that if it shows up). As for that message, that's a new one for me. If you see the USB device in Device Manager, right-click on it and choose Uninstall - don't delete the drivers if prompted. Then right-click on your computer name in that window and choose 'Scan for hardware changes' so that it attempts to reinstall the device.
