I've had my iMac since December of 2012 and finally did a wipe/re-install of the OS.
What a performance difference.

I recommend wiping it with multiple rare earth magnets next time.

I’m definitely not a fan of the Finder and it’s implications for usability, but Windows blows.

Either way, I’m not buying another PC when this dies.

Pro tip: if you are going to pay a visit to Amazon, don't forget the "n" in amazon.com.

amazo.com made my browser and uBlock freak out.

Pro Tip: Don't double-check somebody else's warning about a typo'd website throwing uBlock warnings just to see for yourself.

My 4 year old 270x died on one of my gaming PCs. Just out of MSI's warranty, unfortunately.

I know I posted an article where it was a bad time to build a gaming PC due to supply issues with cryptocurrency miners, but really hadn't looked at GPU prices.

I read an article from last summer (or so) where they listed Nvidia's 1050 and 1050ti as $110 and $130 cards. If you can find them, they are going for $100-150 more than that now. Midlevel GPUs pushing $500, if you can find them. Unbelievable.

Fortunately, I had an old 6950 I threw in there that will run Fortnite and keep my son happy (for now). But there doesn't seem to be an end in sight for the supply issues...

I've seen some horrendously bad datacenters in my day. At my previous job, I spent a few weeks running new CAT5e to half of the racks in the DC because of how poorly the original cables were installed and managed. This task allowed me to find multiple servers that had no redundancy, which I was able to correct.

I'd still like to throat punch the people responsible for the initial mess.

This seems relatively on point, from my experience.

Aside: shoot me before I ever have to go back to dealing with server hardware.

Server people are very abstracted from end users. They get yelled at by less people. They also don’t seem inclined to do anything urgently. This is a culture I could get on board with.

This is very true, and why I enjoy it.

This is much more applicable to Linux admins, IME.

Had a server/networking crisis recently. Was on the phone with the client at 4am. Finally got a server person on the phone after lunch. Mind you this was no ordinary crisis. Possibly 8 figures of revenue at stake. It was a super day.
