NTP66's thread of IT
I am not able to get to a site that I have no reason to not be able to get to. It's the ABA, when I google seach and click a link, the address bar populates with the https and it has a strikethrough. And when I left click up there it says the connection isn't secure and that I didn't grant the website permissions? (this is on firefox) and it doesn't work on explorer either. When I changed all the permission boxes from "default" to "allow" nothing changed.
WTF is this?
WTF is this?

It likely means that not all content on that site are properly secured under their SSL certificate. Are you getting an actual error accessing the page, or just curious about the strikethrough in https?

Ok nerds. My laptop will lose wifi connection intermittently throughout the day when I and working remotely. How would I go about diagnosising the problem? My laptop is old as hell and I am thinking the wifi thingy (receiver, card, node, whatever) is shot.
Help.
Help.

Windows 7 or 10? Your first step would be looking at the Event Logs (System). Next step would be updating the drivers.

Right-click on your start button and choose 'Event Viewer'. Expand 'Custom Views' and click on 'Administrative Events'. All errors and warnings will be listed here, so scroll through them looking for anything network/wireless related. If you come across one, post the text from the 'General' box when you select the event.

Which wireless card do you have?
1. Right-click on Start button, choose 'Computer Management'
2. Click on 'Device Manager'
3. Expand 'Network Adapters'
Find the one that mentions wireless/wifi (i.e., 'Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260')

Okay, what brand/model laptop? Drivers are limited for that chipset from Realtek directly.

Oh dear god...
There's zero chance Windows 10 is even supported on that, which I'm willing to bet is part of the problem. There are a few things that you can try, but there's no guarantee of anything actually working.
Update your driver:

Update your driver:
- Right-click on the Start menu and choose 'Computer Management'

- Expand 'Network adapters'
- Right-click on your wireless adapter and choose 'Update driver'
- Click on 'Seach automatically...' and let it go through the motions
- If it installs a new driver, let it finish and then reboot the laptop, and then disable power management
- If it does not find a new driver, disable power management
- Right-click on the Start menu and choose 'Computer Management'
- Click on 'Device Manager'
- Expand 'Network adapters' and double-click on your wireless adapter
- Go to the 'Power Management' tab, uncheck everything, and click 'OK'

That's what I would do, personally.
The latest NIC drivers available for that model are for Windows 8.1: http://files.ecp.toshiba.com/2016/08/19 ... 58700e.exe

I did something similar with an HP a few years ago. They didn't have a Win10 driver for it, so I installed Vista and then upgraded to Win7 and then to Win10 and it works fine now.
So, yeah, it's simple, just install 15 years worth of operating systems.
