I've ordered my first M.2 2280 SSD and it comes with cloning software. I was under the impression that imaging/cloning drives with the OS is not a particularly good idea.
I have Win 10 Education installed on a 240GB SATA SSD, which is a new build from late September. I really don't want to reinstall Windows (and all of my games) and configure it again so soon...
So does newer cloning software actually work well with the OS? Or am I asking for problems?

Which brand is the SSD? If you’re going from SSD to SSD, clone away. If you’re going from a spinning drive, you can always give it a shot. Worst case is that you end up having to start fresh on the SSD, and you’ll have your working OS on that spinning drive as a backup.

Looks like they use Acronis for their cloning software? If so, that’s good. I’ve used their stuff in the past and like it. I think you’re good to give cloning a shot.
I really want to upgrade my Samsung EVO SSD to an M.2, but have a hard time justifying the cost of the drive I want.

Yeah, I'm moving up to 480GB. I paid about the same for my Toshiba 240GB SSD in 2014. Moore's Law still doing its thing.

I’m going to look into it again tomorrow. I know that my motherboard isn’t new enough for the latest stick, so I’ll need an adapter. Not a big deal, though.

$230 for the Samsung 970 EVO that I'd get, but I have no PCIe 3.0 slots available, and my MB doesn't support this generation M.2 card. So, I'd basically have to upgrade my board and start fresh. Gonna pass on that for now.

Any of you IT'ers deal with hardware? My PC is currently experiencing issues that are frustrating to say the least.

It's been a couple weeks, but here is the gist of it:
I was playing a game (Fallout 4, been playing it for two years without issue) and the whole PC crashed and restarted. Upon restart I had no picture, so I moved the HDMI from the GPU to the motherboard, and the picture came back. But the GPU isn't being detected anymore. At first, I figured it may have sh*t the bed, but then a couple days later another issue cropped up. I was playing an older game that ran fine on the Intel integrated graphics, when the sound cut out completely.
I opened her up and made sure all the connections were good and gave it a cleaning, but it wasn't really dirty to begin with. Still nada.

Did you check the Event Logs - specifically, Custom View\Administrative Events? That may point you in the right direction. If it's hardware, it certainly sounds like the issue is your motherboard since that's the only common denominator between both issues. I was going to suggest updating the GPU drivers, but the sound card having issues makes me think something else is going on.
It might be worth checking the health of the OS, too. Launch PowerShell on your computer and run the following commands one after the other:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
These commands will only scan for issues, and will not alter anything.

Well, the sound is actually running off of the motherboard, so that makes sense. I'll give those a try when I get home from work. I appreciate the help.

No dice for those. The event log didn't show anything out of the ordinary, and the PowerShell commands came up clean.

If you go into Computer Management and look at Device Manager, do those devices actually show up? If so, do they appear normal or with yellow bangs? If they don’t show up at all anymore, I’d basically be convinced that it’s your board.

I assume you've unseated and reseating the card? If there are LEDs on it or a fan, does it appear to be powered on?

I have, unseated it yes, but not looked at it while powered up. I'll have to give that a go tonight.

Do you have another available power cable that you can swap for the GPU to rule out that one line? It's looking more and more like a motherboard issue to me.GPU is lifeless. No LED's, no fans, di nada.

Doesn't look like it. From what I can tell, most of the mobo power distribution is internal. There is only 1 big 'ol 12v line.

I split my builds between Amazon and Newegg, personally.
