PATS @ STEELERS GDT -- Likely for the #1 seed...

Postby Blue Canary » Sun Dec 17, 2017 7:45 pm

I'm not even mad. Steelers won that game and the refs gave it to the other team. No idea why but it doesn't get much clearer.

But if they meet in the afternoon championship in foxbourgh, it's going to be an easy Pats win. It's a disappointing loss.
Absolutely.

I haven't been *this* pissed off about a stupid football game in awhile.

OK, why didn't Ben spike it?

The HELL.

That's just awful. Change the rules if that is the rule. So so bad. The ball crosses the goaline...that should be a TD.

Question. I know the ball moved. Did they ever actually show it hitting the ground though?
You couldn't see it out of his hands when he stretched across the goal line? It was pretty easy to see it on the ground.

Even if it did, it shouldn’t matter. James made the catch. Tucked it. Turned. Extended. And broke the plane. And I don’t give a **** if that’s not the rule.

I thought his other hand might be under the ball. That was bs to overturn, no way around it
This is the only way that I'd accept they got it wrong. And by they, I mean the refs... the NFL has this all wrong.

The call on the field was TD, it looked like his hand could have been under the ball. Overturning the call on the field is bold, for sure.

I know that's the rule, and was probably called correctly in today's NFL, but it's so dumb... SO dumb.

Play is dead the moment the ball crosses the goal line. Should be a catch.
The "complete the catch" part supersedes that. They made the decision that he didn't complete the catch and called it back. Again, the way the rule is written and interpreted, I think they made a correctish call.
My position is that when he had two hands on the ball and turned with it to stretch into the end zone he became a runner. The Bryant play is not congruent.

The play was dead as soon as his knee was down; no TD per rulebook.

He wasn't contacted yet. He can low crawl from that point so long as no one touches him.

Plus the Steelers would've had the ball inside the one at that point, if true.

In the postgame presser, when asked if he had a problem with Ben taking that shot:

Tomlin -- Noooooo, we play to win. We play to win the game.

If so, then don't turtle with the playcalling when you have the Pats on their heels.

I've never been this angry after a game. Disappointed? Sure. Upset. Probably. They played their guts out and deserved that.

Once he tucked the ball then stretched it he became a runner. If he wanted to chuck the ball after he broke the plane he would have been able to. Terrible call. This is why no one watches this league anymore.

Very tired of this as well. They took off the gas and paid for it.

No spike because it was 3rd down. Objectively correct decision.

This is a football problem. Not an NFL problem. You have a sport where everyone watching knew it was a touchdown but the rules say it isn't. I don't think there's a way to write down on paper what is/isn't a catch. But the more they've tried to refine it, the further from reality they get. I'm a big fan of replay, but as far as calling something a catch, Id accept, "because reasons" as an official explanation.

Also IMO gronk shouldn't be that open all game. Hot take shmengy is back.

I would love for you to find any TE that wouldn't do the same thing he did. After he tucked it, in his mind, he probably felt like he was safe to go for the TD.

This stupid fcking rule goes completely against every natural instinct any receiver has.

If the Steelers won this game, they would have dropped the next one in the playoffs. They need to have the chip on their shoulder.

Don't think that chip will amount to much in Brady and Belichick's playground

I'm at a loss for words. I'm not sure the ball hits the ground there. No way is that conclusive evidence.

Freaking Patriots man. The Steelers are the Capitals to the Patriot's Penguins.

If they don't want to win the next game, they'll continue to let Gronk decimate their defense.

The problem is that the catch took him to the ground and as the rule is written in the book, if a catch takes a receiver to the ground, then there are a whole new set of rules involved for it to be a legal catch. If he had caught it, taken 2 steps and then slid to the ground, he's totally fine.

And yes, it's a **** rule. I'm definitely not arguing that point.
