But the solution to these problems does not begin with women torching men for failing to understand their “nonverbal cues.” It is for women to be more verbal. It’s to say: “This is what turns me on.” It’s to say “I don’t want to do that.” And, yes, sometimes it means saying piss off.

The single most distressing thing to me about Grace’s story is that the only person with any agency in the story seems to be Aziz Ansari. Grace is merely acted upon.

My point was that the author seems to think this encounter was somehow strange compared to late 80's standards... I will say that I had at least a few 'dates' back then that were pretty much the same - you know, except for stopping before actually having sex... Probably because the girls back then weren't nutcase snowflakes...

I wouldn't say they validate in. I'd say they create it. Louis CK probably has a pretty good success rate with that jerking off move, for instance.

tif's brain just exploded. Celebrity is a synonym for culpable here. Once you come within 5 feet of someone that's been on TV your actions are no longer your own and the celebrity needs to make the correct choices for both parties whether they have clear signals or not.

threats are one thing. and it sounds like weinstein made explicit threats. but there's this other thing of..."he won't hurt my career if i say no, but he may help it if i say yes", which i think is what we're going to see a lot of. and it's hogwash. that's 100% on you, hypothetical lady.

As I've mentioned before I don't lend credence to people that pop up years later to report something after the statute of limitations passes. However, in this case, these women are filing victims statements for use in his sentencing hearing. Not that they need my acceptance, but good for them.

Not really pertinent to anything, but a few days ago a FB friend of mine posted a scantily clad photo of Rose McGowan and made comments about how she still dressed like that after Weinstein "raped" (her quotes) her, how she did nude scenes in movies, etc. Then she finished off the post with "She's just another liberal Hollywood pig!" And this post was made by a woman who probably has never watched a Weinstein movie (or a McGowan movie) in her life.

While I find many of the recent allegations dubious, I can also see why women are afraid to come forward.

justice porn is fun, but i really don't think there's call for a judge like this to be so sassy. some of the lines + her appearance make it seem like she was auditioning for a TV show. no matter what the case is, i don't want this to be a thing.

I was thinking that too, actually started formulating a response to a would-be prompt for my CrimPro class. But I didn't want to appear to be soft on systemic pedophilia so I let it be.
