Zero, but if I'm bound by the poll and have to change the construct I'll say two; mainly because I don't consider my mouth and anus to be the same hole. If someone convinces me otherwise I'll just go kill myself now, thanks.
Guess what folks. dodint is wroooooong again.

So what? Length determines if there are 1 or 2 holes? Or position? Or if the path is linear or not?

What? I’m just saying you don’t say there are two holes in the piece of paper. A bottom hole and a top hole. That’s ridiculous.

That's not even remotely close to being the same thing, if I'm understanding your post correctly.

If you have a flat piece of paper and you cut a hole in the middle of it, you don't have a straw. You have a flat plane with a hole in the middle.

1 hole, 2 openings is clearly correct. No further need for discussion.
Gotta stick with the scientist.

It's a hollow cylinder. As such, a straw had zero holes.

A hollow cylinder has no opening. It has a known thickness around the entire perimeter and therefore has no openings and no holes. So yes, a hollow cylinder has zero holes. A straw is not a hollow cylinder.

whats the difference between a straw and a hollow cylinder? a straw was a hollow cylinder before it became a straw

Let's say that's true. Then you start by making a hole in one end and a 2nd hole in the other. 2 HOLES!

Im not using the paper as a plane in this discussion. I probably should have used this as an example to not confuse people.

Or you could just make the first hole drilled all the way through, negating the step of going to the other end.

I responded two initially, but after googling it and reading some stuff, I guess one? The mouth/anus metaphor is apt though.

regarding the mouth/anus opinion

alimentary canal: the whole (editor's note: hole?) passage along which food passes through the body from mouth to anus. It includes the esophagus, stomach, and intestines.
