With the exception of that 6-8 minute stretch at the beginning of the 2nd half, PSU played pretty well tonite, even with Watkins on the bench most of the game. Truthfully, I thought they played better without him on the floor. For a team that has two 7-footers, Purdue is so freakin soft on the inside. Carsen Edwards stepped up big to start the 2nd half and Mathias/Cline hit some clutch 3's. PSU hoops is peaking at the right time but they need AT LEAST two more wins to get more than a passing notice from the Tournament Committee.
In other hoops news...
--Wichita's midseason swoon is done. Great 'road' win at Cincy today ('road' in quotes cuz Cincy has been playing at Northern Kentucky this season while the Shoe gets renovated). Wichita will probably get like a 5-6 seed and they'll be a big threat to get to the regional final. As for Cincy, they're great defensively but they still struggle at the offensive end of the court.
--Duke's won 3 straight games without Bagley in the lineup. That spells bad news for future opponents when Bagley returns because whatever confidence was waning on that team is starting to come back and adding Bagley back into that mix is going to be pretty big.
--It took Sparty 11 minutes to erase a 22-point halftime deficit on Saturday at NW. If everyone gets on the same page, Sparty will be in San Antonio.
--Want a sleeper to keep your eye on? Houston. Lots of offense and a pretty good rebounding team plus the experience of having a coach in Kelvin Sampson, who knows how to get teams over the top.

This is all irrelevant, of course, when it comes to getting in the tourney, but Penn State received votes in the latest AP Top 25 poll, and was #22 in NCAA's latest Power 36, as well as #25 in KenPom. I really hope they are planting the seeds for success long-term in terms of getting recruits, especially in the Philadelphia area.

I'd assume they're comfortably in the tournament unless they really screw up the end of the season and the B1G tourney

Are you referring to PSU? If so, they're nowhere close to comfortable right now. They pretty much have to win their last 2 regular season games (home Michigan, at Nebraska) and may need two conference tournament wins. PSU's only Q1 wins (long explanation) are against Ohio State and they missed a giant opportunity against Purdue on Sunday night.I'd assume they're comfortably in the tournament unless they really screw up the end of the season and the B1G tourney

Yeah after further investigation you're right. I really haven't followed hoops as closely with Pitt and Akron both sucking. I knew they were about to have 20 wins, with two top fifteen wins, in the B1G. That resume usually gets you in, but looking now the rest of their schedule was butt. I haven't looked at any bracketology or RPI numbers this year until your post. Somewhat surprisedAre you referring to PSU? If so, they're nowhere close to comfortable right now. Louisville lost their appeal and will have to vacate their 2013 national title.

What does that mean? No title awarded of the losing team gets it?

I was always curious about such things... like I'm sure Pitino got a healthy bonus after winning that title. Now that it's vacated does he have to pay that back? Would it depend on the university? Could they go after him for that money?

Apparently. The rumor is they will take the banner down, but I wonder if they could just cross out "NCAA" on the banner and just leave it as "national champions"?What does that mean? No title awarded of the losing team gets it?
Only in the stupid NCAA is it OK for UNC to create make-believe classes about "Afro-American Studies" (which was basically the equivalent of just watching a new Madea movie every seminar) in order to keep their players eligible, but what Louisville did isn't.

can we please discuss this in the 2012-2013 hoops thread? thx

No ties to Pitt mentioned, unlike the dirty UPS program whose former player DJ Newbill had a loan payable to the agency. This confirms the many rumors of Pat Chambers and UPS running a dirty program rivaling only Pitino and Calipari in the shadiness.

I mean, its not like it wasn't well known. And it's widespread enough that the field was sort of "even," hell even Wichita State is caught up in it. We all saw Blue Chips, we know how it works.

Imo sean Miller is being set up as part of a nefarious ups/uwv conspiracy
Also does this mean sean Miller will come back and coach Pitt now bc sign me up

i believe he intentionally sabotaged his AZ career to start back at Pitt. The timing with Stallings going 0-124 is too coincidental to overlook
