Off and running on the new season. Outside of NHL playoffs, this is the only other sport that gets my full attention on a nightly basis. Thankfully, they've created DVRs to record all the Hollywood programming that I couldn't watch live.

Some storylines:

--How much will Louisville and Arizona, two highly thought of teams, be affected by the recent federal indictments. Pitino is gone but Louisville still has a pretty good nucleus. Arizona is top 3 in most polls but had an assistant snatched up in the net.

--Will more federal indictments come down during the season? I bet they will.

--The best teams look to be Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, and....Wichita State? Yeah, don't sleep on the Shockers. New conference, top 8 scorers from last year's 31-win team back for this season. The conference switch should finally get them enough respect to earn a higher seed and avoid Kentucky until at least the Sweet 16 this time.

--Over/Under on how long it takes for the first mid-major to whack a power conference team -- 4 1/2 hours. South Carolina (Final Four last year, gutted by graduation this year) goes to Wofford to lead off their season and Washington hosts Belmont later tonite (Vegas says it's even). Those are the two games in the crosshairs for this possibility

--Hoping to attend at least 15 games this season...I'll get 12 of those taken care of on Thanksgiving weekend in Portland.

Hey PSU plays on BTN+ at 4, I can put it on for background noise. Figured it was a BTN sub channel. Nope they seriously want you to pay extra for BTN+ to watch the crappy B1G OOC basketball games. $15 a month or like $150/year recurring. Less for just the one team.

Yeah, I’m not that interested.

It's Big South, but planning on attending some Winthrop Eagles games, will go see Marshall play at Charlotte, and Pitt at Clemson.

And your first big conference team to get picked off -- Wake Forest...losing by 2 at home to Georgia Southern. Might be another long year for Danny Manning.

Yeah, aTm couldn't miss and blew the doors off WVU.

And in Annapolis, Navy gets their first win over an ACC team in 46 years by beating Pitt. For those of you who are Pitt hoops fans, I don't think Kevin Stallings is the answer. The guy doesn't know something as basic as when to foul in an end-of-game situation. They're down 6 or 7 with 40 seconds left after a miss and he basically stands there on the sideline with his hands in his pockets. Gonna be a long season at the Zoo (which is good cuz my Towson Tigers go in there the Friday before Xmas and I'd love to steal a victory).

Pitt is bad. Stallings can recruit, I'm hoping he can get some talent in, and if he can't coach, then he can go and someone who can coach will have something in the cupboard. By the end of Dixon's time, they had a bunch of pretty mediocre players that no one was going to win with.

Pitt looked as I expected. Poor defense. Carr, Wilson-Frame, and Luther are the only guys ready to play at this level.

Major conference home losers tonite to lower leagues:

Morgan St over South Florida (AAC on edge of major)
Milwaukee over Iowa St (gonna be a rude awakening in Ames this year with the losses to graduation)
Montana over Pitt (you Panthers fans are in for a long winter)

Hey look at that double digit Penn State Hoops win over Montana :pop:

I bet the powers that be at MSG Barclays Center can't wait for that battle for 7th or 8th best team in Pennsylvania next week.

Yep, I remember it well -- 1996 behind Malik Rose and they beat Syracuse. I have plenty of experience with the Dragons since my alma mater (Towson) has been in the same conference with them for 20+ years and once watched them go to the free throw line 50 times in a conference tournament semifinal game.

My apologies for leaving out the other PA schools. Easy to forget considering that St. Francis's best export might have been Mike Iuzzolino (of NBA Jam fame), Robert Morris did beat Kentucky in the NIT a few years ago, but Duquesne...they haven't done much in a very long time.
