Back on track with actual basketball discussion since this is where every thread seems to end up at some point over the past six months or so:
I'm kind of puzzled by the Fire Chambers contingent. Sure, he's been there 7 years with no tournament appearances, but he is making strides in recruiting particularly in Philly, MD and VA. IMO considering he only loses Garner they ought to be able to make more noise in the next couple of years. A healthy Mike Watkins late probably would have gotten them the additional win they needed late to be more in the bubble discussion.
There's a similar contingent at Providence calling for Ed Cooley's head in a year when they are a better than even shot to make their 5th straight tourney appearance, which is a school record. 5 appearances in 7 years. Yeah, he's only won one game over the previous four appearances, but he has them experiencing continued success at a level the school has never had, even in the Ernie D and Marvin Barnes years in the 70s. Lost his starting power forward for the entire season and still will probably fall on the right side of the bubble even if they are one and done in the BET.
Guess the question is the same as always in coach replacement discussion: who else comes in? Is there a replacement who will can build the programs beyond current trajectory and will not backslide instead? Both have good things going and were somewhat held back by injuries this season. I get the impression players really like playing for both and they seem to be getting the recruits they need. They actually have a lot in common: in state guys in their late 40s who played at small schools and were hired out of successful mid major gigs 7 years ago.
I like the trajectory and say stick with them.

There are a number of schools that just don't have it from a basketball standpoint and they change coaches and it's just a vicious cycle of mediocrity. Penn State and Providence are nowhere near that point. If PSU had stagnated this year and showed zero promise, then I'd think that ditching Chambers would be a good idea, especially since they haven't discussed an extension yet. That program is finally on the uptick and he's got that Philly pipeline going. Give him another year to see if they can finally take that next step. As for Providence, it's a little different in that Cooley has had success and he's spun his tires a bit when it gets to Tourney time. That team he had with Kris Dunn should have done a lot more than they did. I can understand the grumbling there a little bit for not doing more but how do you argue with getting to the tourney 5 straight times? There are a number of schools who would kill to have just 3 appearances in 5 years. The grass isn't always greener but it seems every AD thinks they're pushing things forward when they let go of someone who has had some form of success.Back on track with actual basketball discussion since this is where every thread seems to end up at some point over the past six months or so:

13 still isn't exactly dominating. (We are)13 is close to 3 in that State College math.

Women's basketball...what a great sport. UConn up 43-5 on Cincinnati at halftime. Cincy did not score one point in the second half:

Geno Auriemma is a freaking genius. He has devised a way to get the best female college basketball players to all spend four years in Storrs, CT.

Akron was down 27-4, went up 77-70 with under a minute left, turned it over twice in the last 17 seconds up by 4 with the ball, went down by one, and won it with 1.7 left. What a roller coaster of a game. Not that anyone cares but that's one of the more bizarre games I've ever seen

One of my co-workers (also a Mizzou alum) is in Vegas this week and he put $10 on the 'zou to win the NC at 60-1. I told him that he was better off giving me the $10 and I'd kick him in the nuts and he'd at least know the $10 went to a good cause.Guess who’s back? #MPJ13
