If you want to know how to play basketball, watch Loyola's 2nd half on a loop. This is a real-life Hoosiers situation going here, even bigger than Butler.
They created so many good looks. And then they hit their bad looks too.. they started 13 out of 13 in the 2nd half. Ridiculous

And in the antithesis of good, smart basketball, we have Kentucky. One guy goes 8 of 20 from the free throw line and if he makes half of those misses, they win that game going away. They're up by 1 with the ball with 2:00 left and Gilgeous-Alexander goes to the basket and has an easy 7-foot pullup and instead tries to get flashy and kick it out and he turns it over. K State gets a bucket to retake the lead. There's a number of players in college basketball now that like to show off and be flashy and all that gets them is an early ticket home. Stop chucking, go to the basket, make your free throws. It's not all that difficult.

So we have the 11/9 seeds playing for the South Region. As we all expected.

I agree with OP...we are seeing something really special with those Loyola guys.

That said, my pick to have Michigan advance to the Final Four is looking about as good as it could possibly get right now. Don't sleep on that squad...

I always try and go against the grain (a little bit). Especially in our pools down here where half the people pick Villanova. I have Duke winning it all in the one bracket I have the best shot at. They probably won't even get past Kansas, but if they do pull it out, I'm almost guaranteed to win the pool. If I had picked Nova, I would have been going up against a lot more people.

I won like $300 in a super bowl pool when I lived in Boston by being 1 of 2 people who picked the Packers over the Pats in SB XXXI. Goibg against the locals aint a bad strategy.

SCENARIO:

ulf runs a march madness losers pool. you pick a team to win each day, can't pick more than once. fast forward to day 5 - last night, 8 people remained. all 8 had kentucky or nevada. per the rules, all 8 are allowed back in today. the only other option in my mind would be to declare it over and go to tiebreakers.

dingus who lost on DAY ONE text to ulf: we all picked a loser why are only those 8 people revived?

I'm one of two left in a survivor pool and the tiebreaker is total seed of the teams picked. If I can get a Syracuse and Texas Tech win, I'll be walking away with the cash. If it goes to tomorrow, I'm stuck taking Loyola.

So, made it to Saturday. I'm going Loyola. My opponent is likely taking Michigan since he's used both Loyola and K State. I can't imagine this contest makes it to Sunday.

cool. I set mine up so today and tomorrow are one "day" but you still make two picks. I think the chalk would be Michigan and Nova, but then I wouldn't really have any great choices in the final 4. Guess I have to decide if I think it will get that far or not. This sht is hard

Yeah, it's real difficult because you have to strategize once you get into the Sweet 16. And then when you throw in the tiebreaker of highest total of seeds, it makes you really think in those early round matchups. My strategy is always to go off of my bracket at first and then re-think things once the Sweet 16 is decided. From that point, you have to almost go in a circle around the bracket to make sure you always have someone available. The roadblock I ran into was that I took Kentucky in round 1 and K State against UMBC so I didn't have either of them available on Thursday night, which is good because I would have taken Kentucky. So what I have left is Loyola today, Kansas tomorrow, and then we'll see if there's still a contest. If there is, I'll have no one in the championship game unless FSU picks off Michigan tonite and if they do that, I'm thinking that the contest will already be over.

yeah I ran into the same thing with K-State and Kentucky that night. Luckily everyone took Kentucky and Nevada so we were all back in. Problem is now I have Duke, UM and Nova left.. Won't have any title choices but I'm pretty certain it will not get there. We shall see

@MikeLupica
The NCAA basketball tournament began to become what it is now in 1979, with Bird and Magic. Since then, Loyola is as good a Final Four story as we have had. Including Butler. Twice.
I watched the 79 playoff; the first I recall.

Best ever.

The upsets are fun. But at the end of the day, the Blue Bloods reign supreme.
