What I don't get and this is likely a business decision. Why not just hold these guys until the deadline and get something then? If Cutch's value is low - why not just hold him until the trade deadline and go to highest bidder?

Just seems like poor asset management?

If you hold them until the deadline you have to pay them until the deadline.

Apparently none of their top ten prospects. So, effectively nothing worth even discussing probably.

Are you surprised by this organization having poor asset management?

Right, but the mantra of "we're remaining competitive the future" is better held. Real talk, how do people that are faithful and supportive of this team continue to spew poop out of their mouths? I don't get it.

I swear as soon as I saw this, I thought Kyle Crick has to be part of the deal. Somehow despite changes in the front office, the profile of players acquired in trades has remained constant for a quarter century.

Apparently he is, which makes sense. 25 years old, can’t be a free agent until 2024. We’re trying to construct a 25 man roster where everyone makes league minimum.

Three years removed from being in the top 100 prospect list. Post-hype sleeper, baby!

Bob Nightengale
@BNightengale

The #Pirates are receiving pitcher Kyle Crick and one other mid-range prospect from the #SFGiants for Andrew McCutchen
I'm sure this is another 'B' trade for TL.

supposedly Creek, Crick, or whatever his name is was #16 on the Giants' prospect list.

If you hold them until the deadline you have to pay them until the deadline.
Is the organization so hard up for cash that paying cutch 8-9mm and very likely getting a better deal at the deadline for the betterment of the club is NOT the decision? That's even worse than I thought. Factor in the loss of ticket sales now that you've sold off the only two stars the team has, and this is a fire sale plain and simple.

I side with madden on this one. Not sure why everyone is so pissed off and why everyone is accusing the pirates of a salary dump. Will they have to pay his 2018 salary? No. But we all know he was an FA after this season.

And we all know that this 2018 wasn’t going to amount to diddly poo with muccuten and cole. So it should come to no surprise.

And it should come to no surprise that we aren’t getting a king’s ransom in return for a 31 year old with a —0.7 WAR season and 2.5 WAR season in 2016 and 2017.

If anyone wants to whine about cheapness, whine about the 2016 offseason when they decided to let happ walk and made no tangible improvements to the team. That offseason set this team up for two wasted seasons.

This IS a fire sale

Not sure why anyone has a problem with a fire sale. THe 2018 team is going to be awful, but it wasn’t going to be any good anyways.

It does not appear they are selling at the most opportune time to maximize what they get for the fire sale.
