Still hoping for a well reasoned explanation of Pirates fans being "fickle." They're (as I don't live there) supposed to pretend that Nutting isn't more concerned about the snow making machines than all of the obvious holes in the lineup? Hopefully the number of dupes is waning. Where's Nutting's pool boy in VA? Funny how he disappeared at the right/wrong time.

TV ratings are why I expect them to keep Cutch for the majority of 2018. The deal is up after next season and without Cutch the ratings and the TV deal are going to be a whole lot worse than they already are.

Arbitration estimates from MLBTR:

Jordy Mercer (5.095) – $6.5MM
George Kontos (4.171) – $2.7MM
Gerrit Cole (4.111) – $7.5MM
Felipe Rivero (2.162) – $3.1MM

Rivero is going to be very expensive toward the end of his arbitration and if Jordy Mercer is getting paid $6.5MM we all deserve to be paid $6.5MM.

The debates in this thread will be more interesting than the actual offseason

Even with Cutch - ratings wise I think they need to do more to positively impact them. They were way down with him having a few months of resurgence.

Kang is playing winter ball in the DR, so there's that.

Or are we opposed to a three time DUI loser being on this team?

For yinzer name shits and giggle, I'd like to see Joey Terdoslavich get some action this year. Did they re-sign him?

Does Kang playing in DR have any impact on him being here next year? I don't recall if his issue was getting out of Korea or into USA

The US State department wouldn't grant him a visa to get into the U.S. South Korea was like "you are free to leave, pls go."

Winter ball hopefully will knock the rust off his game should he be allowed to get back in the country for Spring Training in February. He is serving a suspended sentence in Korea, so hopefully with time served he'll be able to get a visa.

I know athletes in general are bad people, but I can't get behind someone who has had not 1, not 2, but 3 DUI's. I certainly wouldn't not root for the Pirates as a team if he came back over, but I would root for him to fail and fail hard.

I'd prefer that he never return, but the Pirates can't afford :pop: to willfully walk away from that kind of value contract.

Ah so as far as I am concerned he still won't be a Pirate ever again

There’s no mention of the DH, but it’s pretty obvious that the realignment would have to include either making it MLB-wide or eliminating it. The union isn’t going to permit the latter, as the DH provides a big salary opportunity for aging sluggers who can’t play the field. So all of MLB would have fake baseball.
Now we're getting somewhere.

Eff that

Besides DH issues the proposal isn't half bad. Keep the AL and NL and scrap divisions altogether if you ask me. Play the other 15 teams 9 times, and you still have 7 interleague series if they are going to do 156 games. Top 3 each league make the division series and 4 & 5 play in game for the last spot. Easy

Dissolving the AL and NL would pretty much make me stop watching baseball forever.

I think this is an opportunity to really get back to embracing the separate leagues. However I understand they don't want half of the teams not playing each other for exposure purposes so interleague will only grow

a dozen games against each divisional opponent and three against each of the other 24 teams. No more unbalanced schedule.
Soooooooo you want me to watch 12 games against Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincy, Miami, Philadelphia, Tampa, and Washington, while seeing the other 24 teams three times a year? Yea, not watching that.
