Yup...seems like a really nice guy, but just super boring.

The most incredible thing I find in his latest success is that he went four years without winning a Grand Slam. And STILL has 20 of them. He didn't win a Grand Slam from 31 to 35, and then has won three of five since he turned 35. So improbable to hit a drought at that age, for that many years, and then suddenly return to the top of the world.

I want to find a way to explain how my waning interest in tennis was related to certain outfit trends on the ladies side, but there's no way to do it without sounding like a creep so let's pretend this post never happened.

What makes Federer's career even more remarkable is the quality of his contemporaries. Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, not to mention all of the other higher caliber players outside the top 5 that are far deeper than they were 25 years ago.

I have heard this argument, but I am not sure I buy it. Granted, thanks to advances in training, preparation, nutrition, etc. the level of play in any sport is higher now than it was 25 years ago. However, as Federer has his Djokovic and Nadal - Lendl (for example) had his Connors and McEnroe. Connors on top of that had his Borg. Sampras had his Agassi. Every top player in the - say - Top 8 of all-time spent as No. 1 - had a worthy rival.

11th French Open win for Nadal. That is, um, quite remarkable.

Consider that the current order of most GS wins is:

Federer -- 20
Nadal -- 17
Sampras -- 14
Djokovic -- 12
Emerson -- 12

To get to 49 titles won between three players in the Sampras era, you need to add up Sampras, Agassi, Edberg, Becker, Courier and then I stopped because that only gets you to 38. Connors (8), Bjorg (11), McEnroe (7), Wilander (7), Lendl (8) gets you to 41. That's three guys compared to the top 5 in those other eras. What the three of them have done in the last 15 years is unprecedented imo. What's even more remarkable is that Nadal is 32, four years younger than Federer. He's had more injury issues in his career, so you never know when he might break down, but we could be sitting here in 3 years with Nadal having surpassed Federer in total titles. He's the favorite in the French until he can no longer walk at the very least.

If it weren't for Nadal, Federer could have 5 career grand slams. That's nuts. In fact Nadal is the only things that prevented 2 actual grand slams and 10 championships in a row.

I've always been a huge Federer fan so Nadal is always a sour topic for me. He is the best on clay, and it's not even close. I'll give him that. He's also better heads up vs Federer.

Sure, but that's kind of like being a fan of both Celtics and Lakers in the 80s.

Nadal is the one that would beat Federer over and over, so I'm not a "fan". I think he's good and one of the best of all time, but I secretly hope he doesn't win majors when they come around.

It's like Pitt...I don't care if their record at the end of the season is 0-12 or 12-0 and national champs. I secretly hope they lose nonetheless because "sports".

Agree with slappy...the dominance of the three of them has been remarkable. It really sucked for Andy Roddick. He is a great player in his own right, but he came up in the absolute worst time to come up of any period in tennis history if you aren't an all-time great. If he would have been born 20 years earlier, he probably would have won a couple more slams. Hell, I think he lost all three appearances in the Wimbledon Final to Federer, including the longest final in Wimbledon history in 2009 when Federer won 16-14 in the fifth set or something absurd.

Two weeks till Wimbledon! I'm so excited. If I somehow snag tickets to see Roger Federer live at Wimbledon, I will be the happiest woman. Hopefully he is still in the tournament by the time I get there.
