Possible last set in Serena’s career coming up. She’s looking tired but I’ve seen her turn it on out of nowhere in the past.

If she pulls out a win I have a good chance of seeing her play live

Well that’s it. That was a fun unexpected run but she looked dead tired in the third set. Tennis won’t be the same without her.

Tomljanovic handled that with such class. Her on-court interview was really well done.

The way she was treated during that match was pretty disrespectful. She hit a ton of good shots but every time she did, it was like a library. The crowds at the other 3 majors would acknowledge the fine play. No surprise that NY would be like that, though.

Eh it’s New York and Serena in her farewell tournament. It’s a home crowd cheering their favorite player a sporting event. I hate how uppity tennis people get about the crowds. I feel like they were happier playing in empty stadiums.

This absolutely comes with the territory at the US Open. And honestly it's much more fun because it is more relaxed. You feel more a part of the match since people make noise even during the point. Wimbledon was an amazing experience but I got glared at when I coughed.

kind of funny. I had been hearing about how Kyrgios is trying to be less petulant and then I just read a story about how he was yelling at his entourage for not cheering him on enough in a previous match

those disposing of Medvedev like that was also a crazy flash of talent

dude is an enigma. and I think he’s good for tennis as a heel like this. He’s at least more interesting than Djokavic

I really hate Kyrgios. The way he behaves on court is just not fun to watch. His entourage was also very disrespectful and at times looked like they were purposely trying to mess with Medvedev during points. And that got worse as the match went on a d Kyrgios kept pointing to/talking to his box. There is general crowd cheering that happens during points (ohh! Ahh!) but those boxes are so close to the players it is a different ball game.

Medvedev also can be frustrating and you can see over the years him trying to be less petulant on court. Last night was a glance back to his earlier years. Kyrgios has medvedevs number though, this is four times in a row be has beaten him.

I hope Kyrgios gets crushed next round.

I’m cheering for Rafa every single time, but good for Tiafoe. This is the deepest he’s gone in a major (made quarters down under a few years back), and to beat Rafa on his way? That’s bucket list stuff for a tennis player.

I love how much purists hate him. Tennis needs a player like that. I could do without the abuse allegations though.

it helps that he’s playing a Russian. Geopolitics are more impactful than his antics
