Corny on her part to call in the favor immediately but at the end of the day you still made out
The transaction is complete and no one in your home should be heated given she sent what I suspect is the equivalent of 3 or 4 dimes minimum your way

Tell her to pick that hill to die on.
Let us know how it goes.

I frequently see people wearing nikes and other various forms of athletic shoes with shirts/ties and or suits/ties. these people do not interact with the general public
good idea to preserve your feet? Or if you are going to go through the rigmarole to look nice with a tie and dress shirt, should you just sack up and wear a pair of dress shoez

Dislike that. I get it on the walk to work...but to wear it at work like that, just buy better shoes...you look like a dumb clown b**** with sneakers and formal attire...

I have no problem with someone wearing sneakers and a shirt+tie. There is no more identifiable visual cue to me to avoid that human at all cost. Only wearing a sandwich sign that says “D-BAG” would be more of a dead giveaway.

People come out of the Federated building in suits and athletic shoes every day, usually going to the parking garage.
They are proles.

if I know I'm gonna be in the office all day, I'll switch over to my running shoes or sometimes no shoes at all. But our dress code is anything more than khakis/golf shirts for the guys is overdressing, so our dress code probably isn't meant applicable here.
But to get back to the original question, if you're gonna suit up for the office, you might as well go all-out and roll with the dress shoes all day. I might give a little leniency to wearing a solid black pair of sneakers, and I mean solid black like sole, laces, sides, everything, to the point where it doesn't draw any attention.
But going with bright colored sneakers and a suit... nah. Don't do that, at least not in the office.

There was one rare occasion where I inexplicably could not find my dress shoes, and absolutely had to leave, so I had to roll into work with sneakers and khakis on. That was one of the most self-consciously awful days of my life...I almost envy the people that lack the self-awareness to roll like that.

I could maybe see switching to athletic shoes to commute, especially if one's commute involves a lot of walking. Wearing athletic shoes all day with a suit, however, is a bad move. It's quite possible to buy dress shoes that are constructed to have the comfort of athletic shoes (such as Florsheim's Comfortech line, for example) or even accommodate orthotics and custom insoles, so IMO its not an excuse to say that you have to wear athletic shoes because you find dress shoes too uncomfortable to wear all day.

This. There is absolutely no reason to wear sneakers with the suit. When I do my consulting exec-ed or compressed program teaching, I sometimes teach 9AM-6PM continuously for up to 5 days straight. I am old (er ), I have significant issues with my spine and one leg, and I can handle it easily with "work-friendly" dress shoes (even Dockers has those, I believe they call it All Motion Comfort).I could maybe see switching to athletic shoes to commute, especially if one's commute involves a lot of walking. Granted, I would not take those shoes to a super-dress-y event, but for work they look and feel perfectly OK.

Just to make sure: son is working behind the scenes at his middle school musical. Costumes or some such. There are three performances. We are obligated to go to one performance, correct? One of the other technical crew parents was giving us the blinkingguy.gif treatment when we said one show was more than enough when our kid isn't visible in it.
