Booked an AirBnB; a condo at a ski resort in WV. It's something like $140/night for three nights. There is a $101 cleaning fee. After booking and prepaying all of it, I get a Welcome Letter that states they'll charge a retroactive security deposit (AirBnB won't allow them to tack on a security deposit ahead of time) saying they'll charge us for a security deposit up to $200 unless we do the following at check-out:

 Load all dirty dishes and start dishwasher.
 Do not strip the beds before you leave, just leave them unmade.
 Leave all used towels in the bathtub for easy counting by the cleaning crew.
 Find and place all TV remotes by each TV.
 In the winter, lower all thermostats to 65 degrees, or in the summer, turn off air conditioner.
 Check all rooms for personal items that may have been left behind.
 Take garbage out to the dumpsters behind the stone sign and place a new garbage bag in
trash cans. (Be sure to close the lid(s) on the dumpster to keep animals out)

We have to fill out that checklist, leave it for the cleaning crew to verify, and then also take a picture of it with our phone and send it to the owner.

My specific question is: If you pay $101 for a cleaning fee and there is an actual cleaning crew coming, is it unreasonable to demand that I take the garbage down three flights of stairs and out to a dumpster?

My general observation is: Honestly, go **** yourself.
If it were a rustic cabin or some kind of shared space I would be okay with it. But it's a vacation condo. If they were not charging a triple-digit cleaning fee I would be more open to doing it. This is my vacation. When I wake up on the last day I'm not looking to complete a chore list. We're neat and clean people and leave rentals in really good condition, and would have done most of the stuff on the list anyway as a courtesy. But the trash thing, while putting their hands out with an out of proportion cleaning fee, really strikes me as being very arrogant. The weird thing is it's the second time in a row I've seen this. Both times were in West Virginia, renting full condos/houses, with a cleaning fee, with a cleaning crew, on AirBnB.

Popped down to an airbnb in Asbury Park with about 12-16 friends for Sea Hear Now...airbnb said "whole house" or whatever...we're drinking and carrying on and all that stuff, 12, 1, 2...5 am. At some point, in the wee hours I heard a couple of dogs barking...and I was like, "hmm...that sounds really close for it to be neighbors." ...long story short...there's a person who permanently lives in the basement of the house and we had no idea. I tossed her a couple beers and was like, "lady, you're gonna need some help getting to sleep tonight unfortunately..."

But that's crazy that that wouldn't be mentioned...

I think I'm done with airbnb...good idea, but it seems bastardized now and it seems to have some influence on rent prices too...the last several trips that I have booked have been with hotels (this wasn't my booking)...

So a few months ago there was a wedding I didn't really want to go to for a co-worker of Mrs. F. she didn't really like.

So, today we received a generic thank you card from them that was preprinted in bulk, that basically said "thanks for the gift, it meant so much that you were able to join us for our special day." Not signed, nothing personalized other than it was addressed by hand.

Tacky or not to not actually personally acknowledge those who attended your wedding and gave you a gift? Personally I am borderline on whether no thank you at all would have been preferable. I would probably have never noticed we didn't get one.

Supremely tacky, and I also would have preferred not getting one at all to that.

I mean, I had it easy though. We did gifts the next morning and had our parents around to take inventory on who sent what so we just had to get around to writing the thank you's.

Having just been on the other side of this, that’s insanely tacky and lazy. Yes, writing personalized thank yous is time consuming, but it’s really the least you can do. I know how much I hate attending weddings so my goal with mine was to make it everything I’d want it to be as a guest. Ceremony and reception at the same place. Open bar. Meatballs instead of dry chicken. Live band. Homemade wine as the takeaway. And personalized hand written thank yous.

I'm an anti thank you card person. It all washes out in the end.

We still send them, because that's what you are supposed to do, and a part of the problem. But I wish thank you cards were eliminated all together. But if you are going to do them, make them personal.

My second cousin was married in June. I didn't go, but I did send a check. No thank you card in return, and I'm fine with that as it just would have ended up in the trash anyway.

late last night my SO and I both received phone calls from the uninsured (we think) drunk motorist that plowed into us and took off back in April (he drive his van into a ditch about a mile away) and I didn't pick up but my SO did. we had no idea who it was and the dude's English was bad and we couldn't understand him so we just told him wrong number and hung up. this morning I realized who it was.
I'm waiting on a call back from our insurance agent but....is this weird that this dude is trying to call us? I have no idea where he got my SO's number as it's not on the police report though my number is.

the name came up on my phone as Cruz Wilson. the guy's name on the accident report was Wilson Cruz (not THAT Wilson Cruz) Marroquin.

I found his Facebook page too. apparently he likes to go live on Facebook while driving down the interstate and singing along to Tejano music. at least in the videos he's not swerving and side-swiping cars.
