if you don't have small children*, you're otherwise healthy, and have no supremely important plans coming up this weekend, then don't spend energy worrying about catching a cold at work. if it's a stomach bug, you have free reign to flip out. a cold? GTFO. you're also in your 20's - it'll be over before it even starts.
* - this isn't because of you spreading viruses to your kids. it's because managing little people is a god damn catastrophe when you're not healthy.

Someone sent my wife $180 on paypal in September 2017. She's been doing freelance work for a while, but has no idea what it's for. I said take the money and if they come back you pay it back. She's hesitant, what would you do in this case?

if that's the case then your office has a bigger problem than her selfishness. suck it up buttercup.depending on how casual your office environment is I'd consider saying something gently to the boss, especially if it's very clear she's got something contagious.
She pretty much said she was coming in because she didn't trust us to be able to work without her (our other boss is on vacation).
She's a very high-strung individual. Saying something probably would not go over well. I subconsciously gave her the stink eye yesterday when she came over to my desk to ask me something and she gave me the ol' "Is something wrong" deal.
though it might be fin to show her how much work gets done if the whole office is out sick.

at what point do you become close enough with a person that they can only refer to you by your last name? This guy at work refers to everyone by their last name. I do not like it.

Under normal circumstances, doesn't happen, but I share a first name with another person here so people will often refer to us by our last names instead.at what point do you become close enough with a person that they can only refer to you by your last name? At least people we've worked with for years anyway.

I don't think you need to be close to someone to refer to them by their last name... you just need to be of that ilk. It takes a certain type of person to call everyone by their last name.

I don't mind it in a lot of settings, but the guy in question doesn't know me (or anyone else) very well at all.
There are people that have known me for 5+ years, and if they call me by my last name, I'm fine w/ it.

Do you have a weird last name? Is that why this upsets you?

There were four Michaels in my office (out of 60 humans, give or take)...I was often referred to by my last name, as I have been among my friends for most of my life...
One day our legal counsel - a big fan of mine - stated (not in my presence) that it was disrespectful to refer to me by my last name...made a moderate-sized deal about it too apparently...
In any event, that largely subsided, as I defeated all other Michaels and am the only one here now...
I think there needs to be some "friendship" (work or otherwise) in order to cross that line, especially if you were introduced by your first name...just coming right into it and referring to everyone by their last name is kind of bro-ish...and probably shouldn't be considered kosher...

I tend to use the phrase "that doesn't seem kosher" about once a month at work. Given that it's the South, some people give me funny looks (aside from the funny looks they give me, normally).

I actually heard it used in a montage of "things not to say at work" in one of those cheesy 1980's office harassment VHS tape deals...as I tend to do, I canvassed the room to see if any of the Jewish folks took exception to that and they all agreed that it was laughably ridiculous to include that with the other things in the montage...

There was a Jesse here when I got hired... He started calling me #2, and I would jokingly call him #1 back. The guys on the floor had a different idea. I'm "Smart Jesse", he's "Dumb Jesse".
