What do you get someone as a bereavement gift for a miscarriage? We're thinking food, because that's what my wife of an Italian family immediately things of for any kind of consolation.

Any 'good' ideas here other than that? To me it's one of those things that we can't fix, other than being available and waiting for them to ask for help.

Food isn't bad or some small attention taker...something that the couple can do to just kind of occupy their mind...don't insert yourself into it but offer a shoulder in the card. When I feel bad about something so personal like that, I don't want people around me...

That's my response as well. I retract and then complain to you people and then reach out to real people when I'm ready.

I think food and a card is a good idea. Maybe under normal circumstances, a date night type of gift card - restaurant and movie theater.

Just got a voicemail from Don (pronounced in a heavy yinzer accent as dawn) snee about a gas line job (pronounced jawb). I do not have any gas line jobs at the moment. He sounded slightly irritated and rushed by whoever he was supposed to be calling. Do i call dawn and explain to him that he called the wrong number or do i let him stew and get even more irritated?

Ask how much it pays...you could get two incomes for, probably, a couple of weeks until they find out you're not qualified or even working at all...

Update: our friend Dawn called me again this morning at 6:30 and left a message that he had a couple questions before I start at digging. I did call him back because i didnt want the gas line job to be a disaster. Dawn thanked me for calling back. Case closed.

Throwing a dog poop bag into someone’s trash can that is at the curb for collection.

Well. From a tangential legal perspective trash at the curb, outside of the curtilage of your home, has no expectation of privacy. So they're not doing anything wrong statutorily.

Normally no, I can't say though that I haven't indulged nihilism and tossed a poop bag in the exposed can.

I've had this happen a few times. It's better than dog **** in my yard, I guess? Would be nice if they could walk their dog BEFORE the truck comes though.

If the garbage hasn't been taken yet, go for it. If it's an empty bin AFTER the truck picked it up? Big ole nope.

Thirded. In most cases though I'm of the mind it's your dog you pick up the poop and carry it back to your place to dispose of, or you find a public disposal along the way (not your neighbors garbage can).

I'm looking at it from the owner of the bin's perspective as to whether I care or not. As a dog walker, I will carry that poop back to my place and deal with it.

I get them because I do a ton of computer work. Not sure how to measure empirically that they work. But I do it just in case.

My fiance swears by them and now that she's seen me working from home, she has been bugging me to get a pair. They seem like a gimmick to me.

Well, these doctors say no, but what do they know? Nerds: https://www.tmc.edu/news/2020/01/debunk ... ye-issues/
According to an American Academy of Ophthalmology report, “it’s not necessary to spend money on special [eyewear] for computer use.”

“There’s really no evidence that [blue light glasses] help,” said Amir Mohsenin, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science at UTHealth‘s McGovern Medical School. “We don’t really have any data that supports blue blocking glasses as being better for your eyes when you’re using a computer. In fact, I would say that we don’t know if there’s any potential harm in wearing blue block glasses. It’s hard to recommend something without knowing more details about it.”

Eh they're just saying there isn't any data one way or another. Apple introduced night shift, which is basically the same thing. If Apple does it, you know it's legit.

Yeah, I have my Pixel set to fade out blue light after 11pm.

The thing I would say is: what's the incremental cost? Is that cost worth your fiance's happiness and a potential upside to your wellness?

Say "yes" to the second one and then immediately proceed.
