Any thoughts in here on fundrise? At initial glance, the things I see as a negative:
- dividends taxed as income
- up to 3% in fees
- can be difficult to request full amount of investment back, especially if project isn't fully completed (although they have 4 "buyback" periods per year where this can be done)
Otherwise, 9-12% returns on average sound pretty nice.

My 0.02: There is no effin' way how 9-12% returns from any private real estate investment is long-term sustainable. The closest approximation of private real estate investment I can think of is this TIAA-CREF fund:Any thoughts in here on fundrise? At initial glance, the things I see as a negative:

Considerably lower levels of returns there.

Thanks Tomas. What would be a good option for investing something for say 5 years? An initial dump into the investment, and being able to add to it during that 5 year span. I'm looking at doing this to save up for future car purchases so I can pay in cash rather than pulling a loan.My 0.02: There is no effin' way how 9-12% returns from any private real estate investment is long-term sustainable. House committee passes bill to upgrade 401(k) plans amid 'retirement income crisis'
Here’s a bullet list of the changes: https://waysandmeans.house.gov/sites/de ... ection.pdfThe most comprehensive changes to private retirement plans in more than a decade are gaining momentum in Congress.
A key House committee on Tuesday unanimously passed a bill intended to increase the flexibility of 401(k) plans and improve access to the accounts, particularly for small businesses and their employees.
The proposal, known as the Secure Act, was backed by the top Democrat and Republican on the tax-writing Ways and Means committee.
...
It repeals the maximum age for IRA contributions and raises the age for required mandatory distributions from 70½ to 72.
It also expands the use of 529 plans, from only college-related expenses to include home schools and student loans.

Got in on the Uber IPO...bought it at $42...let's see where it goes...
Also, got a $7 call on Cemex (CX)...before the election cycle (or next catastrophe...bridge collapse, etc.), see if anyone tags on to some infrastructure work, Cemex has a lot of government contracts...their selling off some stuff to clear some debt, but they could get hot over the next 12 to 18 months if, like I said, a democratic candidate actually cares about people and not about, ya know, FREE COLLEGE and other nothingburgers...or, more profitably I imagine, something catastrophic happens and we knee-jerk into that...
