My retirement accounts all did quite well under Obama, so I'm not worrying about it that much.

The correlation between President and Stock Market is one of the dumbest ever. Put money in and collect at the end of 30 years. Compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world.

Don't you dare make us hate football by mixing it with math. Also, petition to change Tomas' alias to Tompas.

Going for it against the 2007 Patriots in the same scenario makes sense (the play call doesn’t). Against the 2020 Cowboys it does not

This happens when the class starts at 11, and at 10:45 you get the genius idea "hey, let me throw something in front of the old New England example and show it in 15 minutes!"

This is from a journal where I serve as an Associate Editor. I had nothing to do with this article, but I think the results are interesting. Plus, when in 23 years, the beloved actor Tom Hanks will have died at the age of 88 (last episode of "Veep" ) - you will know what to expect. :)
A nonrandom walk down Hollywood boulevard: Celebrity deaths and investor sentiment
Gabriele M. Lepori

Abstract

Motivated by psychological evidence that shows the public experiences emotional distress in response to the deaths of popular figures, I employ the deaths of 1,391 Hollywood Walk of Fame celebrities as natural experiments to identify exogenous public mood changes over the period 1926–2009. Consistent with the psychological theories which maintain that sadness encourages individuals to favor high‐risk/high‐reward investments, I find that U.S. stock returns are abnormally high immediately after the death of a major celebrity. This effect is particularly large during periods of high market‐level uncertainty (+0.40%) and for stocks headquartered in the city where the celebrity died (+0.26%).

They can no longer say that they're competitive, IMO. There are dozens of banks with higher rates, even after some of those fell, too.

Did you know that Marcus suspends all accounts that have not had any activity in 60 days, and doesn't actually notify you? That hasn't happened to me, but I read a few posts this morning about it where people tried transferring money, had it fail, then are charged bounce fees. That's **** up.

Wow, hadn't heard that. I have direct deposit 2x a month, so I'm good, but good to keep in mind if I move on to another account for direct deposit out of my paychecks.

Nevermind, the person who reported that was an idiot. The 60-day lock is if you have a balance below $1.

A really cool paper my colleague wrote:

Beauty is wealth: CEO attractiveness and firm value

Abstract

This paper examines whether and how CEO attractiveness relates to firm value. We construct a Facial Attractiveness Index of 667 CEOs based on their facial geometry. More attractive CEOs are associated with better stock returns surrounding their job announcements and around earnings‐announcement news with CEOs' images. Further, more attractive CEOs are related to higher acquirer returns following acquisition announcements and higher Tobin's Q. Finally, consistent with the existing literature documenting the beauty premium in pay, more attractive CEOs receive higher compensation.
