Investing, Stock Market and Retirement Planning Thread

Yesterday's edition of the WSJ was gr8. Included an article about how some guys NFT of the first tweet ever was originally purchased for 2 million and was recently put up for auction. The highest bid was $14,000. There was also an article on how the semiconductor chip shortage is so much of a problem that there is now a shortage of chips for the machines that make the chips.

I had a discussion with someone today that told me that to make ranch dressing involved using ranch seasoning. Same vibes

A month ago I was teaching a class on options, and used Amazon stock as an example. Since then, AMZN lost 1/3 of its market value (and is about 25% below S&P500), and keeps falling. The 6-month at-the-money call options we valued then are pretty much worthless now...

Never in my life would I have expected that AMZN (who I thought is much better positioned than all of its competitors) would underperform this much and this fast (Walmart actually gained slightly over the last month). The world we live in...

I don’t play around with the market much, all I know is that my 401k was down basically 9% over the past week. I guess you ride it out but ****.

Most of us have a while before we can even touch this money, so you have to just roll with it. If I were on the verge of retirement, I’d be a little more concerned - especially if I were still tilted heavily towards equities this late in the game.

I was reading it wrong but sadly it was the starting point not on the current balance. Fidelity’s app blows.

I have 15 years at least so I’ll just stew on it a while then get on with my day.

I need to stop thinking in terms of with the $ I lost this year I could have bought…. Whatever.

Think of it this way, you probably made way more last year than you lost this year, so you’re still ahead of the game.

Bitcoin has plunged so low that I’m surprised I still don’t own some.

VTSAX under $100 for the first time in over a year... oof. Also saw a headline about Peloton getting crushed in PM. You still invested in them, @dodint?

Peloton is an absolute mess. They need someone to purchase them before they disappear.

Don’t worry, the gov just approved a 10 billion bailout for them.

Better than selling for a massive loss. Buddy at work is down $13k on some stock that for the life of me I can’t remember the name of. It was mentioned here long ago, starting with P.

Also, holy **** has Roblox fallen off the face of the earth. I got out between $105 and $122, and it’s trading at under $24 right now. Dodged a huge bullet there, and I’m still shocked that it’s doing so poorly.

All my stuff is in VOO, VTSAX and QQQM so I mean it'll get back to even at some point I'm sure. I just may be 40 by that time.

Nearly all of my equities are in some form of TSM, be it VTSAX, VINIX, etc. It always comes back strong.
