So US played Serbia in the 5th-8th place group. The first quarter: 7:32 !!!! The second quarter: 33:12 !!!

At the end, USA lost 89:94, and regardless of the result of the last game against Poland, the at best 7th place will be the worst in the history of the US basketball.

They will finish behind the Czech Republic, where the top league has the average attendance of 750/game...

I don’t understand this tournament or the annual hockey one. You are trying to determine who the best country in the world is. Meanwhile the best players in the world don’t show up to play. So why do people pretend like this is some sort of measurement of quality, or treat it as a point of national pride?

We're the only country whose best players don't show up from what I know.

right...but i don't think players and fans are treating this tournament as a battle for 2nd place, though.

i guess hockey is worse. each team has an arbitrary collection of guys missing due to injuries or playoffs. it's such a worthless brag.

And why should they? If one country out of 200 does not take the most important tournament in that sport (with a 4-year cycle and a sophisticated qualification system that involves all the 200 countries) seriously, and sends its C-team (which rightfully gets beaten repeatedly), then it's on that one country . It's a totally legitimate World Championship....

if the objectively best nation in the world by faaaaaaar sends its C-team, then that alone nullifies the legitimacy of the tournament.

Since it was the voluntary decision of that supposedly best country, I could not disagree more...

Well, the intersection of the above set and the roster of Team USA is empty, and...

"Every assumption about the elements of the empty set is true."

(To put it in non-math terms - if you do not want to be known as Team No. 7, give your best players incentives to show up.)

Anthony Davis had 40 points and 20 boards last night and only played 30 minutes. Made 26 out of 27 free throw attempts

20 rebound games imo are cooler than 50 or 60 point efforts.

which is why one of my favorite all time pitt performances (including both fb and hoops) is Blair's 22 point 23 rebound game against uconn

This beef between KAT and Embiid is both pathetically juvenile and also hilarious.

Ugh...Sixers have a good shot of winning it all this year, don't they?

On one hand... KAT hasn't done sh*t with his career so far. He's 4 season in and has made the playoffs once.

Embiid's team success is certainly more than KAT's team success, but not by much, and with more support. Fire both of them into the sun. Bunch of fake tough guys.
