Without Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs won by 39 points over a "very dangerous" Rockets team. I'm sure the Finals between GS and CLE will be lovely, but the NBA playoffs are such a lousy product.

We'll have to agree to disagree. From a purely competitive standpoint, the NBA's product is far worse right up until the Finals.

There's video of him after the series final game at a strip club while everyone chants MVP.

The format of the NBA playoffs has always been weird to me. Western conference finals are already a game deep and an Eastern conference semifinal isn't even finished yet. Golden State will be halfway to a sweep over San Antonio before the ECF even starts.

Can anyone who understands how the basketball draft lottery works explain how a team that lost in the 2nd round got 1st overall pick?

Was it a pick received in a trade?

Well, they didn't lose in the 2nd round... They play the cavs tonight to start the ECF.

They got it from a trade with the nets.

The nets got: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and D.J. White
Celtics got: Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans, three first-round picks (2014, 2016 and 2018), plus the right to swap first-rounders in 2017.

Oh dear God, so when they "reassigned" Billy King last year they sent him to turn Mikey's wheel, right?

Shows you how much I pay attention to the NBA (re: losing in R2).

But I appreciate the clarification.

Why can't this league just make simple trades that involve less than 16 people? At least only 2 teams are involved this time.

How can anyone claim the NBA playoffs are a better product than the NHL? Another blowout last night. Cleveland and Golden State are now a combined 17-0 thus far.

There's a difference between this NBA playoffs and most years. This year is especially anticlimactic but on average the NBA playoffs are just as good of a product as the NHL.

The NBA typically keeps getting better by round and the best teams keep advancing. Makes the early rounds less interesting than the NHL for sure but there's also less a chance of having some random matchup of Portland vs Milwaukee in the Finals, that's the equivalent of Nashville-Ottawa SCF (8 seed from the west vs 6 from the east).

I would say the NBA Finals can be as good or better than the Stanley Cup playoffs, from a fan-neutral perspective. But the first three rounds? Nah. Cavs won by 44 last night, btw.

The NBA is much more top heavy than the NHL and you really only have 4 or 5 actual good teams. It has almost always been this way.

Largely that is because one player can change the dynamics (as the mid-90's Bulls proved) so radically in the NBA in a way no other player can in any other sport.

He once said, on Sports Reporters, that you're allowed to kick a field goal again on 4th down if you miss it on 3rd. It wasn't a miscommunication. He said it clear as day.

If you believe such a thing, it must drive you insane when a team doesnt try 4 straight field goals if they're in range with 30 seconds left or so and have a chance to win the game.
