Lmao. Nothing matters.
Why does that matter?
Nobodys allowed to sit in a field and watch fireworks this weekend.
Most people cant sit in a park bench.
Were shutting back down because cases went up like a quarter if a percent after increased testing.

Does it really need explained why some people have a problem that everyone else has to take these drastic measures unless you have a cause you want to yell about?

One could argue you're just as narrow in your scope.

You're focused on black killing each other without taking into consideration why it's happening, which is what the whole discussion was revolving around. You're not even attempting to entertain a notion that there's been generational cause and effect to get to this point.
I never said that's the only thing in scope. I said both should be discussed: posting.php?mode=quote&f=7&p=800692#pr800679

I'm sure economic inequality is absolutely one factor as to the reasons. I would bet that's not the only reason
I think the issue is you may be putting symptoms on the level of disease for discussion. We can discuss symptoms until blue in the face, but unless there's an effort to get at the disease, the best we can do is get palliative relief.
That discussion point goes both ways.

We can replace their crutches with ladders. We can build them hundreds of ladders...thousands. We can build short ladders and tall ladders...skinny ladders and wide ladders. We can stand at the top of every single ladder with our hands reached down to help pull them up.......
...but they need to be willing to climb.
TBH, I'm not so sure some of these organizations are as concerned with equal opportunity as they are equal results.
These feel related to me, i.e., enough ladders theoretically gets us to true "equal opportunity," at which point, any unequal result cannot be attributed to the system.

But that seems a poor basis for making decisions at the moment. I have no doubt that, at a certain point, it becomes hard to point to unequal results as evidence of unequal opportunity. That said, I happen to believe we are so far from reaching that point that it doesn't do a whole lot of good to worry about this concern yet. In addition, I think it becomes a harmful thing to worry about when you consider that we probably need to over correct to address these inequities and get to a point of true "equal opportunity" (if we could ever measure it).

This is especially true if we credit the arguments that there is some sort of cultural (or other) predisposition to not climb the ladders, so to speak. If such a thing is present and at play here, rather than this being a basis to lay blame at the feet of the oppressed (whether now or at some future theoretical moment where "enough has been done), it should be a data point that is considered in figuring out how to fix this. If anything warrants something like over correction, the possible reality that individuals have to swim up stream against heavy cultural currents to climb out would seem to be one such thing. Considered that way, it is just part of the bad luck that contributes to the inequity we see, part of the bad luck that we need to cancel.

Put differently, if you build the best and most flawless ladders possible but they can only be reached by those are that are 8' tall and everyone that needs the ladders is 4' tall--that's not gonna cut it.
I’d like to add more to this, but I think you’ve said it much better than I. And I think it was you who previously said something to the effect of “the rewards of the ‘lucky’ are too large and the punishments of the ‘unlucky’ are too severe.” That also covers it. And obviously that’s a vast generalization, and there are always exceptions, but what you’re born into is an overwhelming factor.

Then go protest your cause if it bothers you that much. If fireworks are that important to you, go make it happen.

Yesterday: I cant wait to call that number and rat on places I see that arent complying.

Today: LMBO who cares if hundreds of people are squeezed into a small area for no reason??

My god. The electric slide? Those bastards.
After photographing more weddings than I care to remember, I can say with complete confidence that anyone who dances to the electric slide should be drawn and quartered.
If nothing else, let's not let this go without applause...

You may need to pay even closer attention to my posting habits then. I’m clearly the “protests are outside and normally well masked so they’re much lower risk than inside without a mask” guy. We discuss protests and infection rates fairly regularly in the covid thread. I did appreciate seeing protestors having fun though so thanks for that.

They were doing stuff like that in Philly too, mostly masked, some unmasked. If nothing else, it gives me hope that the whole outdoor thing is still ok. We never opened (to my knowledge) inside seating here. And there's nothing I love more than drinking outside in the summer...so if this is that litmus test, sign me right the **** up...but then also, keep our bars/restaurants outdoor seating available to us...that's a fair deal and seems to be the way it's trending based on the very, very little I read...

Yes. And I'm saying it's a cop out. Either this is a serious thing or it isnt. It's just funny where all the fear porn addicts draw the line. Because were pretty much at, "meh, some of em had masks on" doesnt really jive with some of the freak outs I've seen the past two days over bars being open.

You may want to go take a look at the studies on outside vs inside transmissions. And of course look at masked vs unmasked. I don’t know if there’s a study on electric slides though. It’s probably a little safer than the Casper slide.

Is that why fireworks are cancelled? Is that why theres still caution tape around basketball courts? Things are so goddamn dangerous youd think not gathering by the hundreds every single night would be a small ask.

Asking cops to treat black people the same way they treat white people is a small ask as well.

This is basically "how can you disagree with Black Lives Matter?" Its in the name?!

You cant win against simplification like that so I'm not even going to bother. Just quit being shocked when you cant figure out why people arent turning their lives upside down to the degree you deem neccessary to stop this virus.

Cops beat the crap out of plenty of white people, too. I'd say we should ask cops to treat everyone the way they treat other cops, but if that happened then no one would ever be arrested no matter what crimes they commit.

Whether people agree or not, a lot of people stopped giving a **** when politicians and such gave zero shits about protests (no matter how just the cause), but still fined or arrested small business owners who “broke their orders.”

Either orders are for everyone or no one. So I definitely see why some just say **** it.

Protests are a month old and have shown no scientific evidence that they are responsible for any sort of spike in cases. Bars being open have. If we discover that being outside with a mask on still translates to a spike in cases I'll change my tune.

True but the incident in question was a protest for BLM. I was keeping it on that topic. I absolutely agree with you.

EDIT: I saw your most recent post in the police thread. That's a good example.

50% of people don’t know who they came into contact with or remember everywhere they went. So I doubt we know much if anything.

Also those studies that were shared on this board said, well it could still be a cause.

The "letting protests happen" argument assumes that authorities could shut all these down if they wanted. I'm not sure if that's the case

I could tell you everywhere I've gone and probably even the dates I went there since mid March. That's because I'm taking this **** seriously. It's obvious that it's mostly young people who are spreading it like this.
