As a child, my formative memories of Hawai'i were the Mauna Loa eruption in 1980-somethingsomething and Magnum P.I.
It would take substantially greater efforts on the mollification front to get me to fly into an active volcano zone than "shouldn't be an issue", esp considering Kona and Hilo are in flow zones. (Flow being lava)
Specifically on the flying front, volcanic ash can be very hazardous to jet engines if ingested. There have been flight cancellations already due to the ash cloud, and flights may be longer if aircraft have to fly around the ash. It doesn't seem to be impacting airports on the other islands, though. Fortunately, IIRC, shield volcanos like Mauna Loa produce much less ash than other types of volcanoes, so the ash cloud is relatively small.
