What other viable candidates are suitable for that role? Serious question here.

The role of a member of the house? Or the role of speaker? Because the answer to both is “just pick someone…”

Pelosi is just turtle-lite. I don't see how the party has any faith in her ability. She doesn't seem to do much for anyone, and her political PR statements are just often garbage.

I don't like her specifically, but also generally it'd be great to have someone that wasn't alive during WWII representing the populace. Same goes for presidential tickets, etc.

I don't understand the idea that oldest is the best in this scenario, I agree. I feel like everywhere else in the world - we're pushing old people out the door and we want them to go away, but then somehow their value is cherished in politics and these dinosaurs last forever.

But I guess that's me being hopeful instead of the cynical, that they're old enough to understand that the elites don't want the government to "change" too much. So keeping status quo, keeps these people in the office.

the stock market thing with Pelosi’s husband is incredibly sketchy and I can’t imagine how she isn’t doing something illegal there

I think the stock thing should be baseline, that if you're in politics, you're not allowed to play in the market - but it'd have to be the entire family (spouses, kids, etc.) and it still wouldn't matter. They'd figure ways around it.

I love how people still think Peterson has any credibility... btw, Imma need a clip of the actual discussion rather than that text. That's just too good.

Whattaboutism alert. I can't believe anyone actually cares about insider trading at congress. It is actually illegal, and that's the only reason it matters (compared to the president), but like, the people that got caught have to be explicitly telling people, out loud, that they are making trades based on inside information.

But, I am supposed to believe that anyone cares about this, after Trump famously refused to divest when he became president, actively lobbied for business while being president (G20 at Dorral), and at most people were like "i don't agree with Trump doing that".

So, right, support the law that's being pushed to ban congress from owning stocks. Because, absent an explicit law that makes it incredible difficult for them to own and trade stocks, they are going to act unethically. We, as a society have decided that legality = morality. We love pointing out when people we don't like are unethical, and people we like are not "breaking the law" or whatever.

The dislike for insider trading and market manipulation pre-date Trump, unfortunately (?)...

Yes, we all dislike it when our political class is corrupt.

I'm sure the Peterson fans are going to find some study somewhere that shows that he's right and that more people die from falling off roofs than from nuclear energy each year... mostly because no one is building nuclear plants (currently there are only two under construction, before those two you have to go back to the 80s to find one being under construction). Where as solar is being installed all over the place.

The point he was trying to make is that nuclear is as safe as solar, right? Right... you can make that point without being a dumbf*ck.

The details of this crime operation are hilarious. This is like, what if we elected a high school weed dealer to a government job.

both things can be bad and illegal (and to different degrees of bad/illegal as well)
