Awful news - Katie Arrington, who beat Mark Sanford for the SC-01 Republican nomination, was seriously injured in a two-car accident late last night. The other driver died.

Man, that race has been something. She was heading to Hilton Head to receive an award this morning.

I'm in the one South Carolina congressional district that has a normal person.
I have a story that will warm the cockles of @shafnutz05 and @NailedPenguin 's hearts.

I live in the 7th Congressional district, which is a relatively new district as of the 2010 census. A colleague of mine ran as a Democrat here in 2016, easily won his primary and got thumped in the general election by the Republican incumbent.

My colleague is a good man, a fan of Bernie Sanders, but is careful enough about his message in this very conservative district. I've told the story where he went to Democratic leadership including Pelosi, looking for money and voter lists back for that race - polls showed him relatively close to the incumbent - but the national party folks declined because he didn't give them any money. It's extortion.

So, he decides to run again this year. He has a carefully cultivated message, website, social media presence. He campaigns all over the district - from Myrtle Beach to up near Charlotte, while teaching a full course load at our college. Out of nowhere in March, a state representative from the Florence area signs the paperwork and enters the race. He's a military veteran, African American, and a representative in the statehouse for several years. He has no campaign website, doesn't campaign much, and barely uses social media. His campaign signs just feature his name and picture.

He thumps my colleague in the primary by 10 points, forcing a runoff this Tuesday. My colleague asked him to debate during the two weeks between elections, and got no response from the other guy. He literally doesn't need to do anything, because he is assured of the black vote in our district.

Race politics are a hell of a thing. It's a lot like Alvin Green all over again.

Arrington's campaign says she'll be hospitalized for at least 2 wks as she undergoes surgeries to remove a portion of her colon& small intestine -& to place a stint in the main artery of her leg after it partially collapsed. She also has a fractured back and several broken ribs.

Agreed. Very bad choice by the business owner.

It will show people’s hypocrisy.

Still think that businesses should be able to deny anyone they want.

Remember the 8 month old baby in Gaza the IDF killed -- the tearjerker front page stories in @nytimes, @latimes, etc? As usual, it wasn't true. Hamas paid off the family to say the baby was killed. There will be no NYT stories correcting the record.

Huh, apparently hearsay is admissible in court in Israel.

The guy that shot Antwon Rose was sworn in as an EPD cop three hours before the shooting happened?

That's impressive.

Yeah, this is a Supreme Court case if it went the other way.

Of course the business owner has a right to deny service. What's hilarious is the leftists running out to defend the proprietor 10 seconds after they were tarring and feathering the Denver cake guy.

 too much...

He was also fired from University Pittsburgh police for repeatedly threatening, harrassing, and assaulting black students.

While I agree that kicking her out was absolutely the wrong move she is in favor of not serving gay people because they're gay. Plant corn...

Discriminating against someone because of their employer's voluntary actions is not even remotely on the same page as discriminating on the basis of a person's immutable characteristic. The restaurant is doing a bad by kicking out SHS, but let's not get carried away.

That really sucks. Sounds like your friend truly wants to make a difference, even if I probably don't agree with most of his views that is really sad. It's the "monolithic voting bloc" stuff I've ranted about before ;)

I'm in favor of denying service to whomever you wish. I'm also in favor of you getting what's coming to you in the fallout afterwards.
