The bill that the Oregon Senate approved Thursday, House Bill 4145 , would close a loophole in Oregon's gun laws that allow convicted domestic abusers and stalkers to legally buy and own firearms if they aren't married to or living with the victim and they don't have children together.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/articles.o ... l_bill.amp

Aside: Should convicted domestic abusers have their guns confiscated?

I say yes.
Federal law already bans convicted domestic abusers from buying or possessing firearms. It even applies to those convicted of misdemeanor (not felony) domestic abuse (the so-called Lautenberg Amendment). The bar also applies on a temporary basis to those subject to a restraining order or PFA. This bill may do something federal law does not, but I'm having a little trouble seeing it.

Former Dolphin Jonathan Martin

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-jon ... 56287.html
Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles was closed on Friday after the prep school learned of an online threat from an alum, believed to be former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin.

A former Harvard-Westlake student made an indirect threat on Instagram, seeking revenge as a bully victim, police told multiple media outlets in Los Angeles. Officials reportedly sent an alert around 7 a.m. warning students of a “security risk” and closing the school’s two campuses in the city on Friday.

That student was identified as Martin by 12up.com’s Nick Brown. Brown shared a screen grab of Martin’s verified Instagram account that shows the disturbing image of a gun, surrounded by bullets, with the caption, “When you’re a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge.”
Dang, that school is in a posh neighborhood in the Valley.

Okay, I see it now. That article (and a bunch of other articles I see on the subject) is overbroad in terms of what the bill does, and I was confused by the references to "convicted domestic abusers" to possess guns. Federal law bans those convicted of any form of domestic violence from possessing guns, period. Federal law also bans those who are subject to any restraining order that "restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such intimate partner or person, or engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily injury to the partner or child...." 18 U.S.C. § 922(d)(8) and (g)(8). Under 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(32), the term "intimate partner" means "the spouse of the person, a former spouse of the person, an individual who is a parent of a child of the person, and an individual who cohabitates or has cohabited with the person." So a restraining order from someone who is not a current or former spouse or co-parent or has never cohabited with the target of the retraining order would not trigger § 922.

What do you think about the specific example that happened in New York City of the registry being opened and women with restraining orders, etc... having to move because their residences were publically released?

Hate to answer a question with a question, but can you easily find someone's address based on their car registration (license plate, whatever)?
I guess to further my question:

If there's nothing that I can search to determine where you lived based on your car make, model, or license, why not create a gun registry with a similar concept?

Anyone have any insight on this? I'm genuinely curious.

According to Business Insider, CNN and Haab agreed on the question that he would ask at the town hall. His father, Glenn Haab, pulled his son out of the event after the network refused to let the student read a lengthy speech at the event.

The Haabs' also appeared to provide doctored emails to media outlets to back up the claim that CNN scripted the questions, Business Insider reported. CNN's version of the email showed that the producer wrote she wanted the student to stick to a question "that he submitted," but that phrase was omitted in the version released by the family.

With the “red line” and all of that crap, we know that Obama had no plan for a US response to Syria. Has anyone been able to decipher one from Trump?

Mind you, I think that part of the world is hopeless, so not expecting anything to matter....

A lot of companies have been running from the nra lately, another sign that this gun control movement is stronger than past ones.

Does anyone here think that Manafort will go for broke on the various charges (and end up dying in jail)?

I think he's got a good chance of beating the early charges because of the simple malpractice of the early Mueller investigation. My guess is that's why these charges were brought, because Mueller knows the early charges are going to be very tainted by the numerous exits of personnel and the whole Flynn debacle withholding evidence and having the FBI director at the time testify to congress that he didn't think Flynn did what was he was essentially charged with.

Are you analyzing this from a legal standpoint or through some other filter?

The Mueller investigation is creating a road map for any state-level probes that may kick off; the President has no pardon power there. Plus, accepting a pardon erases a defendant's 5th Amendment shield, and they can be compelled to testify.

You can't be pardoned for something you didn't do, so accepting a pardon is tantamount to an admission of guilt.
