Doesn’t really matter what the letter was next to the dudes name. It was irresponsible.

4) Maybe pay them a bit more to come back then if you need them?
Easier said than done, especially for a small business. They may be able to pay a little more, but then they will only be able to bring back fewer employees full time and who knows the staffing needs.

Now that said, I know posted later there are rules surrounding collecting this unemployment and these former employees may be screweing themselves turning down a job, but "just pay more is not always a reality".

The loan is specifically for payroll and the money spent on payroll is forgiven. The tweet was basically proven to be BS. But if he so desperately wants to bring back employees to pay them with a loan that's going to be forgiven, what's the harm in paying them more than before? The money's not his.

Good luck trying to roll back their pay when it goes back to "normal".

Honest question, is there stipulations in that loan where you can't give increases on current pay just to take advantage of the "free" money?

That map cannot be accurate. Virginia was one of the first states to shelter in place and West Virginia just started.

Also it is interesting that the yellow spots in the South are where the big cities are, less travel necessary.

Just looked it up, the loan is for up to the previous 8 week payroll average and up to an additional 25% for additional costs reimbursements. So you can't really go out and give everyone raises with this free money.

The SBA loans aren’t great. The hobby shop employs two people, my father runs it and doesn’t take a “paycheck,” rent is the lions share of expenses so he’s fairly SOL.

Kudos for doing something, and it should keep most people employed if they chose to, but it’s not much of a lifeline for small retail.

Tonight’s top news: Urban areas travel less than rural, and places that have historically been agricultural still are.

On top of that, I've been to western Nebraska and Eastern Colorado (where my Grandpa was from). 0% chance people aren't traveling more than two miles for things. You would literally starve to death if that was the case.

He's dodinting about the amount forgiven, which is your payroll expense over the next 2.5 months.

I don't understand what that has to do with paying people more, which is what I was discussing.

They can only apply for up to what the average payroll was over the last 8 weeks. That is the part that will be forgiven. If you give everyone raises to match the unemployement benefits, that won't be forgiven as it won't be part of the loan. And these small businesses are working for every penny to stay in business.

Nan. The loan is literally just to pay payroll. If he doesn't have payroll to pay then he doesn't need the loan. If he spends it on non-payroll items it doesn't get forgiven. It's kind of a moot point
