You should get a job with the Scientologists as a flak.If it hits people I don't like, actual reporting standards aren't all that important.
Faux News proves that.

The Mormons are a false religion founded by a nutjob, and then after a mob got him were led by an even bigger nutjob. I'm not sure "mormon flak" is high on my resume.

Not according to some on here. Let them do what they want.Spoilered for guy in SF taking dump in Safeway.
I said it before, I'll say it again. Reopen the mental institutions (with DOH oversight, of course). It's insane to let the homeless/addicted take over your city like this.

Yep, attacking Freddy for pointing out errors in an article decrying the Mormon Church is like attacking WK for pointing out errors in an article about decrying Capitalism.

Hello... my name is Elder Freddy.

Well that's going to take tax money. I thought you red blooded GOP folk were against that sort of thing? Free markets and all.Spoilered for guy in SF taking dump in Safeway.

Mormons aren't any more loopy than, say, Catholics or Jews or......... really, they're all just flavors of stupid. Which is why I respectfully abstain from the religion discussion thread.

What did you expect when you call 85% of the population stupid?

I dunno, perhaps not stupidity?

Religions of all kinds require a belief in something that can’t be proven. Atheism does not. Not sure how there is a connection there.

In fairness, atheism absolutely requires a belief in something that by its very nature can never be proven. Namely, that the universe/Big Bang literally emanated from nothing. I'm not even talking about Earth or humanity specifically. I am talking about having a 100% belief that there is absolutely no guiding hand in the universe, which is a requirement of atheism. That the Big Bang just...was. IMO, that requires a leap of "faith" that is just as sizable as believing that something created the universe, whether it is a "God" or someone outside the snowglobe.Religions of all kinds require a belief in something that can’t be proven. Well, tif just lit a firecracker for the day...
And I agree with shaf. By extension, atheism means you believe something just popped randomly at the Big Bang, and that hasn't been proven either. Now on the next level, there's a bunch of on the surface hokey stuff that religions believe more than just "there is a God" theism entails, which would further tif's point.
Being agnostic is really the "sane" one in that regard. I don't know, and it can't be proven, so I'm not worrying about.

Atheism does not require a belief in the Big Bang. I mean... it helps, sure. But the two are not interdependent.
Atheism is merely the absence of belief in a divine hand. In other words, look at all the reasons why you reject belief in all the other faiths in the world but the one you chose to follow, and simply apply that same rigorous analysis to that one extra degree.

I think understanding that humanity is just a blip on earth's radar, let alone the galaxy makes all the religious ideas of creation loony sauce.

I grew up in a fundamentalist-ish conservative home and up until very recently subscribed to all of the nonsensical apologetics. Eh, I think at best agnosticism provides the fairest answer, but I'm liking the atheist argument as well. Religion is all just a scam to either make money, support a megalomaniac, or an attempt to make people feel better about their lousy lot in life, while giving them a hope for an afterlife.
Just enjoy the one thing you know for sure is real, people - your actual, physical life that you are in right now. The rest isn't worth worrying about.

I think, religion, like any other societal creation is vulnerable to manipulation and bad actors. But there's nothing inherently bad about religion. The function is to help people.I grew up in a fundamentalist-ish conservative home and up until very recently subscribed to all of the nonsensical apologetics. If you believe, as I do, that that last sentence is more accurate by replacing 'help' with 'control', then it negates the validity of the preceding sentences.

Not knowing how something happened isn’t a belief. Atheism, as I understand it, is not believing in the existence of deities. In fairness, atheism absolutely requires a belief in something that by its very nature can never be proven. Namely, that the universe/Big Bang literally emanated from nothing. I'm not even talking about Earth or humanity specifically. The larger point though is that each religion requires a belief in the existence of something that can’t be seen or proven. So I can understand tif’s point that they’re all loopy.
