I guess checking by last year's tax return is the easiest way to determine this stuff but it's probably pretty weak of a derivation

a lot of people who don't need the money are going to get money and a lot of people who need money (who aren't employed anymore or who had to take a paycut) won't get money

Basing pandemic emergency stimulus checks off of a tax return from a pre-pandemic year is incredibly stupid. I know the 2020 returns won't be back yet and even still those may not accurately portray your current employment status. So, the answer is just give it to everybody who got the $600 check and stop **** around.

The dems also ran on the promise of a 2k check. Since it's $1400, that means it's a continuation of the $600 and everyone who got that should be included.

This right here.

You want to do another round after that, fine. Lower the limits then.

Again, the primary purpose is that it’s a stimulus check, not a relief check. It’s not about who needs it, it’s about injecting more money into the economy to keep things running. Whether that’s by someone being able to make their rent payment or using it as extra spending money isn’t the point. With a baby due in three months we’ve been extra conservative with our money, but the stimulus money has been spent at local restaurants with big fat tips for someone bringing food to my car. If they follow through with reducing stimulus eligibility, we would no longer be eligible and our dining out budget with the big fat tips would crease to exist. Sorry local restaurants and employees, the Democrats are pussies.

Democrats need to grow a spine and push this through. It's something they ran on, they need to make good on it. Period.

Isn't Manchin the only D fighting to limit payouts and try to make this a bi-partisan deal?

How worried about bipartisanship were the Republicans when they used reconciliation to push through their tax cuts? Just take a stand and do what you think is right. If they cave on this, Republicans will just find another excuse not to vote for it.

Being critical of objectively bad republican policies and politicians does not make the press left.

The whole socially liberal / fiscally conservative mantle should be criticized. And an accurate understanding of where mainstream press outlets reside in that spectrum is being gaslit by the “liberal” media moniker.

aren't there legal procedures to follow if you're putting a defendant/witness/etc in a safe house?

CDC and the White House feuding over the school/Covid issue.

One thing that has become abundantly clear as this drags on...the teachers' unions (speaking generally) do not have the best interests of the children in mind, despite their protests to the contrary.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions ... story.html
Hess notes that in suburban Fairfax County, Virginia, which has given teachers priority access to vaccinations, the teachers union already opposes a five-day school week next autumn and says that schools should not fully reopen until the county’s 150,000 students are vaccinated. Because COVID-19 largely spares the young, no vaccine has been approved for youths under age 16.

When a union challenged the Broward County, Florida, school district’s decision that most teachers must return to classrooms, the district, Hess reports, documented “a raft of instances of remote teachers attending destination weddings, participating in political rallies, having cocktails in restaurants, visiting Disney, and taking beach vacations.”
But United Teachers Los Angeles, a union adept at ideological opportunism, says: First things first. Among the preconditions for its members’ returning to the classroom teaching for which they are being paid, the UTLA wants a moratorium on authorizing charter schools (these are public schools, emancipated from micromanagement under collective bargaining agreements that unions negotiate with school districts), a state wealth tax, defunding the police, and Medicare-for-all.

Good old Joe, you can 100% rely on him when you don't need him. He's the Democrat version of the 'very concerned' Susan Collins.

I understand where he's coming from. I think he's the only D in a statewide position in WV so he has to try to represent his constituents and cowing to the Ds will just lead to a R taking his seat in the next election. Not saying I respect him, but I understand why he does what he does.

I thought the wv governor came out for a big stimulus bill, and then manchin publicly agreed.

Either way, I have zero faith that the Democrats will move anything forward that provides a direct check to most
People. These are people that have absorbed every criticism from the right about being socialist demons demanding welfare for everyone. They are terrified of being called socialists and will make sure they never pass anything that would support that label.

Yeah, the Republican gov is in favor of 'going big' on the next stimulus, and the GOP Senator from WV was part of the group of Republican Senators that met with President Biden the other day. This is Manchin being Manchin.

But I see he's since come out in favor of the go big plan, so there's that.

it's weird how every reply to the @nycsouthpaw tweet uses the phrase "passive voice"

I mean I get what they're saying but it makes all the accounts seem either like bots or people who heard the phrase somewhere and they're all using it like "shallow and pedantic"
