My SIL will love that...4 kids, doesn't work (by her choice).. can't wait to see her facebook posts about all the extra $$$ coming in if this comes true.

I don't have a problem with it overall though because there are people with kids who genuinely need it, there will always be outliers that abuse the money they get, but it will do more good then bad.

Note: I have no children and never plan on having any.

I spend over $300 a month taking care of my 2 dogs. I demand a check.

It should be allowed. My dogs are better behaved than most people's kids.

Yeah, I mean, it's a dumb policy on its face. But if people have kids for government checks they're bad at math. The punishment is inherent.

Also in my head wouldn't it make sense to base the phaseout money for any stimulus stuff on this past year's income? I guess you can't really cause no one has filed their taxes yet??

You could have had someone in 2019 make a full years salary of say 90k, but in 2020 make hardly anything because they were unemployed, but under the stimulus they could potentially get nothing since it goes off of 2019.

Again I see why it's probably not doable, but it seems to make more sense in my head if you are trying to help people who were really hurt by the pandemic last year.

Nearly all of the breathless anti-Brexit stuff has failed to materialize.

It's all filled with buts, maybes, would, could, etc... from Remainers who are still butthurt that the proles chose wrong.

Democracy is good, unless...
It has been three weeks. They spent like 4 years attempting to address all the potential bad things that could happen upon imposing a new economic border. While I am sure there are plenty of hysterical opinions out there, the downside of this move can't be felt in real time, it's the slow erosion of market activity.

Also, Cameron throwing his intraparty conflict to a national referendum for resolution is not something I would call "democracy". It was fundamentally stupid to put a decision like that up for a referendum, it's not just proles that were duped, the competing interests at play with such a structurally massive change to the foundation of their society create huge opportunities for rent seekers to capitalize.

Which is my point. There's been a month of actual Brexit and it will take a long time to see how all this works out.

Well, a referendum is about as pure Democracy as you can get.

And Cameron/May were two of the worst PM's Britain has had since the 70's.

74.1 million kids, $267 billion a year paid out. One bail out for Business Daddy could pay for that program for 4 years.

The items described in the FT are like, basic principle things. It's not a "wait and see", these were inevitable consequences. I guess it's to be seen whether, in 10 years, the British people collectively agree that their lives are better with less material wealth and fewer business opportunities.

Birth rate has been going down for years, and in 2019 was the lowest in decades. More kids, more taxpayers, more workers keeping SS afloat. Let's do it.

Would you agree or disagree that it will take more than a month to figure out "new business opportunities"? The UK isn't barred from trading with other nations all of a sudden and there are now new areas open to UK companies that were not there before.

That kid money will be an incredible help to millions of people. I know we are still hurting from the pandemic. I can't even begin to describe how much that would help in groceries alone.

Just give me back my money. I'd rather it go to the people rather than another place we don't get benefit from.
