Another fun thing about the lack of commentary on the PBS NewsHour stream: trying to guess which gray-haired white dude wearing a mask just exited the SUV.
I've seen a few Ted Cruz look-a-likes too.

Yeah I just saw him going to his seat. I wonder if he knows this isn't like a TV wedding and there won't be a "if anyone objects, they should speak now or forever hold their peace" moment?

I just couldn't see pardons like that being a thing - they have to be submitted and validated correct? Couldn't be a secret for long if they were given.

He looks like he stopped by his office to check his mail before heading to the Inauguration. He's not wearing a dress coat, just his Vermont ski parka. A real mensch.

Yeah, it's a pleasant surprise that the pardon list is quite reasonable. Maybe even more restrained than his predecessors.

The main reason for his 'restraint' is that pardoning some of the people in his close orbit would actually create potential exposure for criminal conduct on his own part; you lose 5th Amendment protections by accepting a pardon, meaning you can be compelled to testify about said conduct. And since accepting a pardon is tantamount to an admission of guilt there is a theory that acceptance can be used against a person in a mens rea/actus reus sense in cases of overlapping jurisdiction with state-level matters.
