Murkowski and Collins have both been on record saying the same. It would be crazy to think Romney wouldn't agree.
So that's it then, right? Without those three, no majority, no confirmation.
Only need 50.
50 only gets it done in the case of a 50-50 tie broken by Pence. Which would mean instead of abstaining from voting, the 3 GOP Senators who said they would not vote to confirm would have to actually vote against the nominee, which in totally 2020 way would be, in this instance, tantamount to voting to confirm.

Honestly, I have a really bad feeling about this. The left wing has been on edge for months (years?) now under Trump. I'm genuinely concerned about what kind of unrest and violence this is going to breed. Judging by social media this might be the straw that makes a lot of people completely snap.

Like, it seems like the usual suspects are already planting the seeds and riling up the crazies.

It's really interesting to see it right now. People who I've never heard one violent word from are talking about throwing bricks. But...that's all talk right now.

Not that it matters but McConnell's argument always was that the Senate and President being of opposite parties was his basis.

And he drew on Biden's argument in 1992, ironically.

Yea I don’t think it applies either, but that appears to be the rallying cry.

Lindsey Graham in 2018:
“This may make you feel better, but I really don’t care,” Graham said. “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait until the next election.”
Odds he sticks to this?

Opposite parties  so no justice should ever be confirmed when the Senate and Presidency are held by different parties? There’s always a Senate election months away since they’re staggered. It’s a horrible argument Mitch.

Also, love the new line floating around than with an election coming that might be sent to the SCOTUS you can’t afford to have an even number of justices...which is grand considering it wasn’t a problem last time, and that three will have been appointed by one of the parties in the case (one within days).

Hoooo boy. RBG was a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, and I rarely agreed with her, but she was a brilliant and dedicated jurist.

The timing of this is gonna be a huge trainwreck. As someone who wants to see another pro-Second Amendment justice, I would prefer that someone be nominated and appointed now. Whether that will happen I have no idea.

I note that on the list of potential nominees, Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit would check a lot of boxes. Female and Hispanic (of Cuban descent) and from a major swing state (Florida, where she served on the Florida Supreme Court).
I understand voting for president based on one issue, to some extent. Wanting to have scotus appointed based just on one issue seems a bit extreme.
