100% they try and rush one through.

100% chance there is violence related to it.

100% chance they'll fail.

100% chance this results in practically open warfare on the floor of the Senate.

100% chance of mass hypocrisy and a ramping up of insane rhetoric from "leaders" in both parties.
Considering how this doesn’t change the makeup on the court, it would behoove mcconnell to wait. If they do ram a nomination through, I think it would embolden a Democratic administration to add justices or something along those lines.

Problem is, Trump will demand a fight and thus throw this into chaos.

It always favors Trump turning it into a spectacle.

I guess the court could get more extreme on social issues, but it’s not like this 5-4 has much room to move right on commercial/economic rulings.

But, the nomination process is going to be a **** show, the news media is Not going to handle this well or responsibly.
Thank you. This is my thought exactly. I think the rhetoric is going to be 100x more than whatever actual effect it has on the court.
The only thing I really worry about is the Roe v Wade thing. If that is really going to be something that could happen, this country is gonna be in a **** civil war
Considering how these rulings have been, wouldn’t the impact just be that scotus would allow states to ban abortions? Considering only the wacko states would follow through, where they have already made it difficult to get an abortion, it wouldn’t really change anything.

Packing the court would be a colossal mistake. I could literally see people marching on Washington with guns.

Packing the court would be a terrible idea for many, many reasons. A better alternative is term limits. There's no reason it should be a lifetime appointment.

Murkowski and Collins have both been on record saying the same. It would be crazy to think Romney wouldn't agree.

So that's it then, right? Without those three, no majority, no confirmation.

Yeah, I don't see how you could actually get one done.

I do see Trump nominating someone they can use in ads.

Hoooo boy. RBG was a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, and I rarely agreed with her, but she was a brilliant and dedicated jurist.

The timing of this is gonna be a huge trainwreck. As someone who wants to see another pro-Second Amendment justice, I would prefer that someone be nominated and appointed now. Whether that will happen I have no idea.

I note that on the list of potential nominees, Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit would check a lot of boxes. Female and Hispanic (of Cuban descent) and from a major swing state (Florida, where she served on the Florida Supreme Court).

Well, RBG's daughter received her dying wish, and it was exactly that, so it's not like Waters is pulling it out of thin air...

That actually came from her granddaughter.
“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” Ginsburg said in parting statement she dictated days before her death Friday, to her granddaughter Clara Spera, according to NPR.
