The fear over Trump becoming the next Hitler is overblown, to put it mildly.

That said, during the 1920s/early 1930s, German communists were acting a lot like Antifa is acting now. Rioting, harassing people, etc. One of the biggest things that pushed Hitler and the Nazis into power was the inevitable backlash at the far left running wild in the Weimar Republic.

I am not worried about that happening here, but I do think if the riots/unrest continue unabated (and don't think for a second Biden getting elected will stop them), there will be blowback at some point.

Hitler fought in WW1, definitely not trump material. His government followers were closer to today's eunuch republicans.

No doubt. The ancient President Von Hindenberg didn't help matters.

I just want to say that typing out "The fear over Trump becoming the next Hitler is overblown, to put it mildly." and following that up with "Antifa, on the hand..." is pretty funny.

Trump retweeted someone calling Biden a pedo, so that’s fun.

The current stuff is obviously a greatly scaled down version of that, so of course I understand that it is not a 1:1 comparison. That said, I do worry about the far right becoming more mobilized if the unrest/anarchy/chaos continues. The last thing we need are more direct skirmishes and clashes.

Some of this is covered in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, but I'm not sure what the problem with that post is?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist ... blic_years

By the time 1933 came around, much of the German public was more than willing to believe that the Reichstag Fire, which was in fact set by a lone guy acting alone (Van der Lubbe), was indicative of a next step of escalation and violence by Communist agitators. And from there, the veering towards fascism escalated quickly.

If I have my facts incorrect, please let me know.

I think it’s pretty hilarious that you think you know more about German history than our resident German. That’s all

So trump will be celebrating his 97th birthday with a ribbon cutting ceremony for his first internment camp.

Honestly these people on Twitter are nut jobs.

Dude, when did I once say that? He posted a vague response implying that I don't know what I am talking about, and I asked a genuine question as to where my facts were incorrect regarding the Weimar Republic Communist Party and how they became an easy scapegoat/rationale for the Nazis rising to power. I don't know why you have to be German to know about that.

I am sure Gaucho knows more about American history than a lot of dummies here in the U.S. I never implied what you are stating above.

There was lot of political violence in the Weimar Republic from, sorry, both sides. I recommend Political Violence in the Weimar Republic (duh) by Dirk Schumann.

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but the Netflix show Babylon Berlin shows a lot of the Nazi/Communist conflict in the early 30s. I wish I could get into the books it's based on, but the translation is a bit...stiff.
