I read it as, ignoring all of this stuff, should the guy have been executed on the spot for shoplifting? (answer should be no, unless he posed a serious threat) Read: I didn't even read the article, that's just the way I read it from nocera.

Off-duty Langston University officer opens fire on alleged shoplifting suspect outside Del City Walmart
https://www.koco.com/article/police-res ... t/33179567

Let's ignore that this cop wasn't on duty, but still carrying and wearing a police vest. Let's ignore that he's an officer with the university, not the city. Let's also ignore that he fired his gun sideways. Is suspected shoplifting REALLY worth shooting somebody in the middle of a Walmart parking lot?
Who's ignorning that? They are doing an investigation and everything you named was stated in the article. The dude may be arrested.
Nobody is. I'm saying EVEN if we ignore all those things.
Gotcha. Read that wrong. :P

Cuomo throws Healthcare workers under the bus instead of blaming his policy

So the kicking student visa holders out is to force Universities to open or lose their students via deportation.

Really **** up reasoning imo

3:04

More or less:
"So you're forcing universities to re-open even if they don't feel it is safe for public health reasons?"
"We're not forcing them to re-open, we're just saying if they don't re-open, we'll be sending international students home instead of allowing them to stay until next semester."

Seems pretty much like they are forcing schools to chose re-opening or sending people on student visas back to their home country.... which I think is pretty sh*tty, but surely they have their reasons... surely.

updates from my school and others appears that if they were planning for some limited on campus, in person classes, it will now ensure that all visa holding students will be on campus (if they choose) with an in person class. They are all switching around who they expected to be on campus. This is a bigger issue for schools that had no plans to do anything on campus.

Anyone from the NFL jumping on Deshaun Jackson for quoting Hitler?

who is it distracting?
I think it causes a divide. Again, immediately after GF death, I think you saw an overall, cross party, cross race, cross (insert anything) agreement that police reform was in order.

But then when things start going to one extreme, then it starts getting push back at the other extreme, until what was a common goal becomes another point of contention.

Again, this board is a microcosm of society. Where are the lines drawn? When does the pandering stop? etc. etc.
yeah, I think this is the issue with it

I think most people (not everyone obviously, some people are idiots) would agree that police reform is something that needs to happen. I don't know how you could possibly watch some of the videos of officers being complete sh*tf*cks to protestors who are peacefully protesting

the other random stuff is noise that draws attention away from the original problem (police brutality and racial profiling) and moves it to more divisive stuff (can a cis actress play a trans man in a movie?!?! should we rename St. Louis?!?!)

seems he's already posted an apology, but he's always been a low-key POS from what I've read, gang affiliations and what not.

Does it though? Does anyone that truly wants change to the causes you mentioned get sidetracked and forget about it because of the actor thing? I don't know about that

There isn't a big push to back the Jews for some reason in cases like this...at last check, they're the most victimized by hate crimes in this country...I don't understand it.

well there's a spectrum. There's a small percentage (10-20%?) that are passionate and adamant about change. There is likely a moderate majority (50%+) who agree with the change but aren't out there pushing for it explicitly by protesting, etc. I am in that group. I am definitely distracted by these other stupid stories. Though that could just be a character flaw of mine

DeSean Jackson should not draw another NFL paycheck, full stop. Putting him in time out for this nonsense is insufficient imo.

Co-signed. If this isn't "conduct unbecoming the league" I don't know what is. Actually, I take that back, I do know. It's smoking weed. Smoking weed is worse than quoting Hitler.

the quote doesn't even make sense. Did Hitler really believe that blacks were the original israelites and not some sort of middle eastern ethnicity?

Cuomo throws Healthcare workers under the bus instead of blaming his policy

Mistakes were clearly made, but the fact that 6,300 nursing home patients contracted Covid (actually many more as a significant portion would have died from the disease) while in nursing homes shows that there were huge problems prior to their initial hospital admission/discharge.

I think in general, it's difficult for people to not just clump race/identities/minorities into single blocs. No doubt that there is toxic hate directed from black people at jews that agree with Farrakhan's garbage, and there are also blatantly racist jews.

I think in general it goes back to how people respond to being subjected/insulted/demeaned. I think people either absorb that and then want to inflict that pain and anger towards others, and some and some go through the experience and believe that no one should experience it. So there is a human element to this that transcends traditional oppressed/oppressor narratives.

I've read it's not a real quote. Regardless, Jackson is a moron, for those that didn't realize it before

Tucker Carlson 2024? The GOP is buzzing
The Fox News host's ratings have gone gangbusters, and many Republicans think he'd be a force in a Republican primary.
