A lot of people are justifying his execution because he committed crimes in the past. Which is bonkers to me, and Chapelle put it nicely. Floyd wasn't chosen to be a hero, the cop that murdered him made him that hero of the time, and it had nothing to do with his past offenses.
I don't think that is happening on this board at all, maybe other places?

Again, my thing is, some of the same people willing to look past GF's past and symbolize him are the first people that will want to rip down a Grant, or a Jefferson, or a Washington statue because their life wasn't pristine despite all the good they have done.
This is such a bad take that it’s hard to know even where to start.
Why?

This is kinda **** up. Students on academic visas who attend schools that choose to go online only in the fall must leave the US or transfer schools.
If they're online schools then they don't need to be in the United States if they are only here on a student visa. They are not immigrants looking to permanently settle.

Makes perfect logical sense.

Will their home countries take them back due to COVID? If there are travel bans?

I think the shitty side of this is those that have leases and logistics like that, as well as the fact they'd probably be wanting to return in the spring when there is (hopefully) in person class. So maybe it isn't totally the right call

So if, say, Breonna Taylor were the face of these protests, shad, Nan, et al would be cool with it? Or does the face not REALLY matter?

Also have to take timezone differences into account.

A 4 PM class in the Eastern Time Zone is a 2 AM zoom session in India (just for example).

That's an unrealistic expectation for the student.

:thumb: Yeah, I'm not digging this one. School is still going on, it's just remote.

Man, I can't believe a temporary move to online only should necessitate being removed from the country when they'd still be eligible to be here in the spring if in person classes restart.

I didn't say it was necessarily fair or smart but it is a rational decision

It's not a rational decision, as laid out by the numerous disadvantages and complications it imposes.

These are just ghouls running the country and love terrorizing vulnerable people in the country.

Starting to wonder if some of these arguments are made in bad faith.

How is rational yet unfair a thing? If something is unfair is it rational? Legit question cause my tiny brain can't come up with an example.

I'm going to pull a grunty and ask if any high tax proponents willfully paid extra taxes following the trump tax cuts.

It also has the side-effect of forcing universities' hands.

If they want to keep these students, ICE is basically forcing them to have some sort of in-person classes, which puts both the students and faculty at risk.

I don't blame anyone for taking money that's available. Same as I wouldn't blame anyone for not paying in extra tax as ktk was getting at. Either one would be a fiscally dumb decision

I mean, are people developing their entire social understanding around the notion that higher taxes is the answer to all problems?

Imagine going back to your home country and relying on sub-par internet service, or that your class access is geo-blocked.

I've said multiple times it's about how the organization styles itself. The only lives they seem to truly care about are those killed by white people. Ideally, white cops. Dozens of times more black lives (including women and children) are stolen every year by other black men. The stunning silence on those lives from an organization that repeatedly proclaims "Black Lives Matter" is hard to overlook.
