It’s controversial because it was pushed heavily by Trump before trials were completed, one trial then said its **** (which was then proven to be completely fabricated), then another trial said “hang on, it might be working,” then another trial was like “nah it’s killing people” so they stopped the trial. And now another trial is saying “but wait a tick, it’s actually helping.”

So who the hell knows.

The drug itself is controversial because of the mixed study results. That was discussed months ago. The noise around the drug is controversial because someone in a position of power said it’s safe (before that was proven) and said he was taking it for preventative measures. That was also discussed months ago.

As I think everyone in here has said, if it helps people fight the virus, excellent.

They said they gave that combo to the sickest patients. This was an observational cohort study, so it wasn't randomized. It does show a massive benefit, but still need a RCT to say it works. This was closer to what some people thought to use it in early hospitalization or early treatment before being hospitalized. The RCT that is being done is before hospitalization, this was just after hospitalization. The recovery trial where it failed was in severe hospitalized patients, so mostly not administered upon entry into the hospital.
