Outside of Neanderthals like trump who overtly encourage police brutality. There is no substantive difference between the two parties on this issue. We (the country) argue about individual culpability, but never on how the corrective actions.

Because it distorts the argument from a general, systemic level to the individual. Most cops are good people, it is usually bad ones the cause these escalations to violence and heightened tensions. But these good cops have to fall in line with their brethren, co-sign when they file bs police reports, and are likely pressured into keeping quiet to misconduct.

It’s not a racial litmus test, but it is a test of whether a person wants to debate on the merits or they just want to spit out vague platitudes and disinterest in the topic.

Or its trying to have an objective look at all sides of the matter to try to identify the issues and resolve them instead of just labeling all cops bad, black people thugs, white people racist, etc and going from there.

There are systematic issues in the police that need fixed. But when you have people that view all cops as the enemy it distorts the issues as well.

“Most cops are good” is a valid opinion that doesn’t address the topic at hand. When the goal is to have cops not kill people, there’s no connection between that and the fact that there are also good cops. It’s like saying, I got sick from eating oysters last night, and someone responding, yeah, but only one was bad, I bet the rest were fine.

To be fair, most people follow the “good cops” statement with more than just that.
