It is absolutely disgusting how Trump abandoned our Kurdishish allies. Now reports of our troops being in the line of fire and supply lines being cut off. Hundreds of ISIS prisoners have also been able to escape. The morale of our troops has to be very low. Makes it seem that all of our troops died in vain there.

Yes, but we are going to talk about sanctioning them.

There have been 8 US servicemen KIA in Syria since 2014. Over 11,000 Kurds have fallen in the fight. Which is sort of the point; they are the ones doing an extraordinarily disproportionate share of the fighting and dying.

‘Some of the Most Noble People I’d Ever Met’
U.S. military officers who fought in Syria say they are devastated and ashamed by Trump’s decision to abandon Kurdish-led forces.
All the people interviewed unanimously said they were devastated by the news that the United States is standing aside to let the Turks massacre the Kurdish troops, and more than one expressed a deep sense of shame.

“I feel physically ill with worry and concern and deeply ashamed that my own country would permit this fate to befall our close allies who did all our fighting for us, when we had the power to prevent it,” said a U.S. Marine who served in Syria in 2017-2018.

Ankara considers the SDF an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey. Both the United States and Turkey have labeled the PKK a terrorist group. But the retired and current U.S. military officers who spoke with Foreign Policy pushed back on Turkey’s characterization of the SDF as a terrorist threat.

“It is unacceptable to turn our back on them to a tyrant like [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan, who views all Kurds as terrorists,” the retired officer said. “There will be a whole generation of U.S. military that will never forget this betrayal nor stop apologizing for it.”

US official tells @npwcnn that the campaign to defeat ISIS in Syria is “over for now” and that ISIS “has a second lease on life with nearly 100,000 [people] who will re-join their jihad.”

In this official’s opinion, “US policy has failed.”

It seems like turkey wants to take the land from the Kurds and settle a bunch of refugees there. This unfortunately results in an ethnic cleansing of the Kurds, but you gotta break some eggs to make an omelette!

Apparently creating havoc in the Middle East creates refugees to European countries, which in turn sparks anti immigrant fervor, which then in turn props up right wing authoritarians. This propping up leaders that have developed ties and are buddies with Putin.

Call it the Occupied Territories model.

'Syrian Kurdistan' has been, all things considered, a fairly successful autonomous governate. But all told there are only around 2 million or so Kurds there. Across the border in Turkey there are more like 12 million Kurds (which is roughly half the Kurdish population in the region). The last thing Erdogan wants is to see the Kurds under his political control taking inspiration from the success those people have had in Syria and deciding that maybe they need to push a bit harder for autonomy within Turkey.

The problem is that no matter how deep you extend the buffer, it will still be the border. So you fix the glitch by eliminating the autonomy. Or the people, whichever comes first, I guess.

They did. it's been that way since we decided to prop up Iraq's dickless government after Saddam was captured.

Maybe it could have been different if the goal wasn't to hand off cash from the treasury to Cheney's buddies.

Another thing that is very normal is AG Barr meeting with Rupert Murdoch at his mansion

This is normal.

Should be condemned.

Though I barely remember people condemning those that wished (ITT) assassination of trump, or when plays were depicting his assassination.

This thread wasn't displayed at a political rally, as far as I know. If fifthavenueforum were under the same scrutiny, we'd all be getting condemned somewhere or another.

Bill Penzey's sister Patty Penzey also ran a spice company called The Spice House. I think it might be under new ownership now, but because it descends from the same Penzeys family, The Spice House offers many of the same blends as does Penzey's Spices, but without Bill Penzey's rabid political views. I've bought from them multiple times, and the quality is on par with or better than Bill's products. For a while they were offering free shipping with the promo code "NOPOLITICS," which I thought was a really good bit of marketing.

https://www.thespicehouse.com/

Also, for tifosi, The Spice House does carry fennel pollen. Organic, even.

I’d rather he be meeting privately with Murdoch than publicly decrying secularists. **** lunacy. He has no business being anywhere near attorney general.

Californians living in a 3rd world country with the blackouts. Blackouts to cover the electric companies, not keep people safe. I wonder how many people fired up their combustible generators or lit candles inside their homes as an offset.

Yea, it sucks. But I’m assuming it going to continue to be a problem with climate change.
