I know they are all going to be gone in 15-20 years at most, but it warms my heart to see WWII veterans that are still relatively spry and healthy.
Really touching segment below. Coastie that was a part of the invasion force.

My grandfather, who fought in the pacific theater, just died a couple days ago. He was the youngest looking mid 90 year old you’d ever see. Unfortunately he had a stroke, otherwise he was still volunteering at hospitals, museums and church.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks. Good man. Will be missed.

The best part of this is how the master chute guy nearly kills the veteran by faceplanting him into the ground at 15 mph and dragging him for 20 feet on landing. This 97-year-old World War II veteran jumped out of a plane to recreate his D-Day parachute drop: http://cnn.it/2Kub7QM

Connecticut is the only state that did not require licensing so they aren't doing anything different than any other state.

I'm like obsessed with WWII and especially D-Day, and every 5 year anniversary, I just watch all of the shows and read the articles about what happened that day. Sad these guys are all going to be gone realitively soon.
But it still blows my mind every year, what these guys endured. Especially that first wave. War is hell, and there are many hardships, but I just can't imagine going into something where you know that the moment you drop that door, you are probably dead. And if you do survive it, still having the balls to keep moving forward.
Brave.

"Detroit" goes against Trump:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/06/clim ... etter.html
In a letter signed by 17 companies including Ford, General Motors, Toyota and Volvo, the automakers asked Mr. Trump to go back to the negotiating table on the planned rollback. It represents the most forceful statement to date by the auto industry against Mr. Trump’s effort to weaken the tailpipe pollution rules, one of President Barack Obama’s signature policies to fight climate change.
Mr. Trump’s new rule, which is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, would all but eliminate the Obama-era auto pollution regulations, essentially freezing mileage standards at about 37 miles per gallon for cars, down from a target of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. The policy makes it a near certainty that California and 13 other states will sue the administration while continuing to enforce their own, stricter rules — in effect splitting the United States auto market in two.

I think it's amusing that, in PA hair stylists, nail techs, etc. are licensed but if you want to do tattoos in your kitchen with a rusty nail, no one will tell you to stop.

If you want to do this kind of work and can't afford $100 a year for the license then you're not going to make it in the profession. That doesn't make it better.Judging by the comments and other stories that came up, this must have gone viral in the right wing internets.Government:

Was wondering if anyone had seen or heard this?:
Back in 04' on the anniversary of D-Day, Don Imus -on his televised MSNBC show- played a clip of a veteran who'd been at Normandy and whose b-day happened to coincide (in fact Imus played the clip several times that day and in the days following).
The interviewer (younger guy -early thirties) tells the vet's story. The vet, who's wearing his commemorative army hat obviously doesn't want to be interviewed but somehow they got him to agree, and he's doing his best. It's at most ninety seconds long. The vet's answers are limited to 'yup' and 'nope'. The interviewer is agonizingly patronizing. The reveal is at the end when the interviewer says in a sing-song cadence like he's talking to a five year old
"And what else is special about today?" he asks. The vet mumbles something about it being his birthday. The interviewer then says "And...would you mind telling us your age?"
The vet says "I'm 88 years old."
The interviewer says, like he's correcting the vet, "No. You're 88 years...young
The vet looks him up and down, pauses another beat and says
I have searched high and low for that and have never found it. Would love to see it again because that vet was my dad. And all my friends dads who fought in Europe or the Pacific.

It’s not a matter of “can’t afford”. It’s a matter of “that 100 bucks would really help in other ways”.If you want to do this kind of work and can't afford $100 a year for the license then you're not going to make it in the profession. That doesn't make it better.Judging by the comments and other stories that came up, this must have gone viral in the right wing internets.Government:

With that said...they’re doing things to your body. Sometimes regulations are appropriate - even if youve never benefited from it, personally.
