It also sounds like the White House is citing some false precedents to establish the Executive's authority in granting security clearances.

They seem to be responding by stating that Congress has no authority in how security clearances are granted, so they don't have any oversight authority, thus no standing to request documents.

Bloomberg not going to run, is basically going to put his money behind Biden.

Isn't Schultz running as an I? Blloomberg was considering running as D.

If I had to quantify - and thankfully, I do not - I'd guess the Schultz backlash was like 127.2% "DON'T **** THIS UP WITH YOUR 3RD PARTY CANDIDATE BS" and about 1% of it was "rich white guy lol".

WH rejects Elijah Cummings’ request for information about specific details about the security clearance process and Kushner’s clearance - and Cummings says he will now decide next steps. Here’s the WH letter

https://twitter.com/mkraju/status/1103011024674979841
So, basically the answer is security clearances are totally at the discretion of the Executive, and Congress can only investigate matters pursuant to legislative needs. So Go Pound Sand.
I am picturing Jared going to congress and berating them for meddling in his efforts to do awesome foreign policy, by enforcing bureaucratic nonsense like proper security clearances.
I imagine they're going to, but the Dems need to be incredibly hard on this stuff, now, going forward, and in the election. I'd also like to know more about this 99-year lease that just so happened to be covered as he was in office for this failed tower in NYC.

Amazing how things like deficits can't be managed by the President.
Slowing global growth is causing a reduction in demand for U.S. goods, while a stronger dollar is also working against the trade balance.
I am reading Woodward's book now, with Cohn and Porter seeming to be major sources on the material, it gets deep into the constant back and forth between idiots like Bannon and Navarro trying to get Trump to do tariffs and Cohn/Porter doing all sorts of ridiculous **** to stall and wait till Trump got distracted and forget about it.

Speaking About Schultz
In the shadow of W's presidential library in Dallas last night, Howard Schultz said Mike Bloomberg not running for president is evidence of the Democrats moving toward socialism and cited it as a fresh rationale for his own bid.

Lawyers were set to square off here Wednesday in a courtroom showdown that could expose more sordid details in the politically-charged scandal surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier and philanthropist whose relatively cushy plea deal on underage sex charges a decade ago has become a political liability for Labor Secretary Alex Acosta.
Do you think maybe Epstein should lose the "philanthropist" moniker.

BOATLOAD of respect for Howard as a businessman, but... business to politics just doesn't always pan out.

Ask Willard "Mitt" Romney, who couldn't beat Obama, how that went for him... only to see another businessman beat a career politician 4 years later. And now he is basically Trump's lackey.

Already working to de-legitimize 2020 election:
"The Democrats in Congress yesterday were vicious and totally showed their cards for everyone to see," Trump tweeted Tuesday, referring to House Democrats' launching of a broad-scale investigation into him. "When the Republicans had the Majority they never acted with such hatred and scorn! The Dems are trying to win an election in 2020 that they know they cannot legitimately win!"

Trump 2020 campaign press secretary Kayleigh McEnany echoed that sentiment in a statement on the Democratic investigations. "These desperate Democrats know they cannot beat President Trump in 2020, so instead they have embarked on a disgraceful witch hunt with one singular aim: topple the will of the American people and seize the power that they have zero chance at winning legitimately," she said.

And asked Wednesday about the Democratic investigations, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said this: "They continue to be a group totally taken by small radical leftist fringe of their party and they're completely controlled by it, they know that's not enough to beat this President so they're going to look for other ways to do that."

I guess we expect sore losers, but not so much sore winners.

I think maybe WK's other point in bringing it up, is that we were just having a conversation about whether Trump would ever accept an electoral defeat.

I’d be willing to bet that close to a majority of democrats believe the 2016 election wasn’t legitimate. That goes beyond sore loser.
