Also, Robin Roberts is a coward. She gave legitimacy to his story earlier today with that softball interview. And this after his story had already been well on its way to falling apart.

So, the two biggest race/hate crime stories from the last month have both turned out to be complete and utter hoaxes, both complete with outrage from the media/celebrities/Left.

FWIW, the Chicago PD are denying these reports.

Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago police spokesman, posted on Twitter that ABC7’s sources are inaccurate.

“Media reports anout the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives,” he wrote. “Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate.”

Earlier Thursday, police said they were questioning the two men, but that they were not considered suspects. Local media reported that one of the men had appeared as an extra on “Empire.” Elgas reported that Smollett did not appear for a scheduled interview on Thursday. Sharp contradicted that, saying Smollett did answer additional police questions in person on Thursday.

Obviously there's still a lot of information to come out.

U.S. retail sales in December suffered their worst decline in nine years, according to Commerce Department data released Thursday, a potential red flag for economic growth.

Advance estimates of December 2018 retail and food services sales, a major driver of the U.S. economy, fell 1.2 percent from the previous month, to $505.8 billion, according to the Census Bureau.

The drop is the steepest plunge in retails sales since August 2009, according to a Bloomberg News analysis of Commerce Department data.
Consumer spending is responsible for roughly 70 percent of U.S. growth and considered a key indicator of future economic conditions. The unexpected December plunge is the latest in a series of signs that growth is starting to slow after gradually accelerating since 2017.
