That all being said, I think trying to subpoena sets a horrible precedent. I do believe that some things need to change drastically when it comes to recording and proving things were said.

Is it alright that we are hearing about all these agreements from the Russian side and nebulous “great things” from our president?

The problem is that things just did change drastically. Normal order for these kind of meetings (outside of the odd 5-10 minute 1:1) is for not just interpreters, but perhaps 5-6 other senior advisers to be in the room, along with a stenographer. You just don't meet with the head of an adversarial nation alone, especially one that stands accused of criminally interfering to your benefit in the election that brought you to office.

There's nothing preventing the interpreter from volunteering to appear before the appropriate committees, or to meet individually with Senators willing to hear what she has to say.

Nikki Haley could very easily be our first female president. I may be on board.

Good column on her from Kay Coles Johnson (Heritage Foundation president)

https://www.dailysignal.com/2018/07/19/ ... n-courage/
Consider the abuse she has endured for pulling the U.S. out of the U.N. Human Rights Council.

The Human Rights Council is supposed to advance human rights around the world. But it has fallen under the influence of some of the world’s worst abusers of human rights.

It may be hard to believe, but the council’s membership includes such chronic abusers as China, Cuba, and Venezuela. Indeed, Freedom House rates nearly a third of the council’s 47 members as being “not free.” A third! And yet these nations sit at the council table, passing judgment on other nations—including the U.S.
Here here. F the UNHRC. The panic and freaking out when we pulled out was hilarious and sad at the same time. The organization has always been a joke, why should the US continue to be their punching bag?

Haley is much less objectionable than HRC, and has proven to be far more capable in her role as UN Ambassador than I initially thought. Honestly, in terms of putting their head down and doing their job, the brightest points of light from the Trump admin so far have been Sessions (agree or disagree with the policies, he has been effective), Mattis (you never really hear anything from him), and Haley.

So apparently the Republicans on the intel committee wouldn't let Butina to be interviewed because it would tarnish the NRA.

http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/ ... because-it
“We heard credible allegations that the Russians may have been funneling money through the NRA, so yes, we wanted to pursue this, but like many other things, when it got too hot, the Republican reaction was, we don’t want to know, we’d rather not know,” Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said on CNN's "New Day."

Schiff said committee members earlier this year wanted to bring in for testimony Maria Butina, who was indicted earlier this week for conspiring to work for the Russian government by establishing relationships and infiltrating organizations such as the NRA that have influence in U.S. politics.

“The Republicans were unwilling," Schiff said. "They said, 'No, we don’t want to have them come in, we don’t want to hear what they have to say.' They wouldn’t explain why, but it was very clear that anything that might tarnish the NRA, anything that might lead to discoverable evidence that might incriminate the White House or people around the president, they didn’t want to hear.”

Butina's name first appeared in the news related to this stuff in April or May. So who knows how long before that the relevant Congressional committees had her on their radar.

Of course, going by her Instagram account some of them seem to have already met her in person.

Steve Bannon just said the biggest threat to Trump in 2020 is...
Oprah
Can't say I'd disagree. However *that* would really be a commentary on how divided this country has become. What a circus that election would be.

I'd vote for Oprah over Trump. At least she came from nothing to make all that money.

Yeah, she has been refreshing. I think she could be a strong presidential candidate.

This was in The Hill today, so it's at least on the radar.
Democratic pollster Celinda Lake said on Tuesday that U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley could make a strong presidential candidate.

"We will see women presidents in the next decade, and the first one may very well be a Republican actually," Lake told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking."

"Really? Nikki Haley perhaps?" Concha asked Lake.

"Nikki Haley would be very strong. She would be very strong," Lake responded.

Haley, who previously served as South Carolina governor, has pushed hard to promote the Trump administration's agenda at the United Nations, offering support for Israel and slamming Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for human rights abuses

He doesn't respect the independent nature of the Fed (Stop the presses, Trump doesn't like things he can't dictate), but he most certainly understands interest rates.
